So, if you are the Sharks would you take Robertson for 2OA? Is the idea of Robertson and his 100-point quality playing beside Celebrini enough to pull the trigger?
I think the Sharks would rather get Andersson over Robertson. Their need for a #1RD is much, much bigger than their need for a #1LW.

Thats a tough one. Gotta think that discussion would be had before anything was done by Conroy

Scoring Winger
|
Again, the problem with trading Andersson for Robertson (and then keeping Robertson) is that you just burned your best trade chip for a LW. So you've got Robertson, great. Who's feeding him the puck? Morgan Frost?
You're basically guaranteeing the organization will be weak at center forever. Robertson would not score the way he has in Dallas with Calgary. Probably not even close.
He is not a play driver. He is not a foundational player. He's a high-end complimentary player. He's very good, but he's not someone you acquire to be your best forward. He's the guy you acquire to pot the feeds from your best forward.
I'd be much more interested if the Flames already had Celebrini, or a top ~7 or so pick this year. Yeah, sure, start the car. But they don't. And again, I'm still not against it per se, because I think something like Robertson and Mews might knock the #2 loose from San Jose, possibly along with something else the Sharks need. They desperately need talent on D, especially on the right side, and could definitely use a big goal scoring winger to play with either Celebrini or Smith.
And of course, this is all assuming Dallas would have the appetite for such a trade, which is not a guarantee. I never argued the relative values of Andersson/Robertson, I just question how much adding a winger--ANY winger--to this organization will help.

Why does everyone think we need to trade Andersson for a centre? Like yeah it s a glaring need but names like Sillinger, Bourque wont solve the issue anyways, just like Frost wont.
If Robertson happens to be the best asset we can get then do it. Can always trade other wingers to recoup assets. Ideally trading Andersson to move up in the draft is the best option, but if you arent able to do it, then why not go for Robertson?
He is much better then having some middle 6 centre and a 14th overall pick. Neither that will likely move the needle for the Flames

Perhaps I'm too simple of a man but this team sucks at scoring goals so I'm not sure I'll twist myself up like a pretzel convincing myself a career 1+ ppg goal scoring machine is a franchise destroying move. If that's the play? Cool let's see how it goes.

I have to agree.
Robertson is not Rantinen. Best for the Flames to keep the powder dry here. Robertson would only solidify their mushy middle status. If they’re going to push their chips to the middle of the table for a LW, then that LW better be McKenna. And if you miss on that play at least there are a few high end prospects at the top of next years draft. It’s not just McKenna from what I’ve heard.

Robertson can play both wings. Frost, Huberdaeu, and Zary all seem like pretty decent playmakers/passers. Moreover, Robertson can set up plays as well. Parekh has also shown an elite skillset at finding guys with pucks. Anyway, Robertson doesn't need much of a play to put the puck in the net. If he's available that's a move you make.

Rantanen's WAR is only 0.5 above Robertson's so they are pretty close. I dont know why people think Robertson is some bum.. Its very strange how people view him around here. He is literally top 10 in the league for all fwds. We can't guarantee the same kind of dynamic supporting cast that Dallas has here obviously... but he's an elite player.

Rust has really good numbers since turning 29. Really cranked it up in the prime of his career (29-33) so far.

Still, 9OA? For him? Ras should totally get two 1sts at that rate
Hell Ras should pull #7 from Boston alone for that matter

The first part of why I don't want him is I would rather get futures for Andersson. And be bad for a few years while rebuilding and drafting potential elite assets. If we pick up a player like Robertson it just cements us in the mushy middle.
The second part is I don't think you can win with him as one of your core players. He just never steps it up in the playoffs. And disappears in big games. There is a reason Dallas is looking to move him. You don't move elite players you can win with unless there is a problem.

Wondering if its Rust + Pitts 1st for Buffalo 1st + something else
That seems more plausible

Wasn't there some poster on here that spent a few days with Tre when he was Flames' GM, and basically Tre spent like 80% of his day negotiating trades? And more than few that sounded like done deals until someone backed out for one reason or another?
