Aside from the Flames, the Penguins and Flyers are the only teams that I think are going to try to sink. That is a lot less tanking teams than the NHL has seen in recent years.
Trading Andersson means the Flames are giving more minutes to Pachal? And if the Flames start trading away other vets (Coleman, Backlund, Kadri) then at some point the table is going to fall over.

Yes. 0%. They may finish bottom 10 but they aren’t winning the lottery draft because I’ve been a Flames fan forever and these things do not happen for the Flames.
Also if that is your strategy it’s a terrible one.
McKenna will not be a Flame. Watch. Nothing good happens for Calgary, it’s been like this for virtually my entire life. Embrace the never ending mediocrity because that is what it means to be a Flames fan. There’s kind of a weird calming nature about it actually. You never have to get your hopes up and crushed.

FWIW, I've heard numerous red-flag stories regarding Byram going back to his junior days...
Just hope the Flames have done their due diligence on his character before determining their interest in him

Ok, now explain to me why on Earth that Nurse is waiving his NMC to not only leave a team that has gone back to back SCF but to go to a team on the brink of being bad for a long time?

I haven't followed him that closely, but he doesn't seem that impressive. He's good, but I don't get the hype. He is still only 24 years old though, so he probably hasn't reached his peak quite yet.

I figured the Pens would be going into rebuild mode and not taking on large contracts like that. Then again, Nurse might make for a perfect tank commander.
Also, I wouldn't pay too much attention to that social media stuff.

Dallas really pushing hard on Andersson. I wonder with their cap issues and if Andersson is willing to sign a long term extension there after next year what the Flames would have to add to Andersson to pry Johnston out of there. RS C and 22. On pace to become a #1 C and makes $8M a year. Assuming Parekh and Wolf are untouchables what else does it take?

I don't think there's a single poster on this site that wouldn't like to see Johnston in a Flames uniform. Can't imagine what it would take to get him though- I don't even think Ras + 18 + 32 would do it.

He’s already a #1C. The Flames don’t have the assets. No need for Wolf or Parekh. They already have Oettinger and Harley

Andersson sign and trade (8x8), Zary, Mews, pick 18.....maybe?

Would you trade the Flames’ franchise centre for that?

Adding stuff wouldn’t make a difference.
The stars aren’t trading for Andersson in an attempt to go for it and then trade their #1 centre.

If they're trading with Dallas, Bourque is probably who they're trying to get in return

2 words. Cap floor.
Just so we can put this one to bed for the rest of the off-season:
The cap floor for this upcoming season is $70 million or so. Currently, the Flames are sitting at $66M with a few notable RFA contracts to hand out (Frost, Bahl, Zary) which will undoubtedly get them over the cap floor. They are likely to find a back up goalie and a few other depth players as UFAs, but I don't see them more active than that.
The problem is that you have quite a few players that the Flames want to try out at the NHL level soon who are on ELCs (Parekh, Brusztewicz, Morin Gridin, Honzek, Stromgren, Suniev etc.), and you can't pay more than a certain amount on those contracts, so you need some bigger, bloated contracts to offset the difference and make the cap floor.
If you take away Huberdeau's $10 million, they are suddenly struggling to make the cap floor. Add in that he has become an important player in the locker room and culture of the team, and a good mentor to younger players, and you're starting to rip the heart out of what made this team so good last year. The other key guys that probably need to stay for this season are Weegar, Backlund, and Coleman. You need that leadership in place until the younger guys are ready to take over the team. They're not ready yet, and taking away too many of these veterans that help you reach the cap floor will undercut their development.
I get that everyone is excited for a full tear down rebuild, but I think that you can expect to see Huberdeau and Weegar play out their full contracts during that rebuild.

Looking at the Chycryn trade couple of years ago, he returned a 1st and 2 x 2nds. That's a good comparable what people should be expecting.
