With the lack of sellers out there it would be great to see Conroy lean in to moving out some vets. Love the smoke around the flames right now, fingers crossed we can grab some 2026/2027 1sts.

That's great news to hear they're taking calls on the vets. It's a long time coming, but fielding a team of young players will be very good to season ticket holders. The vets were good to the team but let's not kid ourselves, they're all at the point of ticking time bombs. At some point they'll be dropping off and they'll be taking a spot because of their salary. May as well explore trading them now while they have value.

Every year I get hyped up around this time, and every year we come away disappointed in the lack of activity overall. But it’s still a bunch of fun to consume the hype, regardless. Keep it coming. The doldrums of Summer are right around the corner, so let’s all enjoy this while it lasts.

I agree. He's rarely talked about. He has way more value than any of the other vets and could easily be dealt for a decent package. Weegar will be 32 this season. Good player but not part of the future.
In terms of potential trade value it's likely Weegar, Andersson, Kadri, Coleman, Backlund,
Huberdeau.

If the Flames can make one big move, Andersson, that would be great. That said if a trade doesn’t happen before the end of the draft, although disappointing for us fans, it would be understandable and consistent with what we’ve seen from Conroy and the management team. Them seem intent on waiting until their price is met.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and you can't trade everyone all at once (you become BUF / ARI). Weegar is needed to teach the kids how to play. In a few years, when some of the kids emerge as leaders on the blueline, THEN you can trade Weegar.
Patience.
Andersson now.
Backlund (if interested) at the deadline.
Coleman over the next 12-18 months (by next deadline)
Kadri in a year or two, if/when it makes sense
Weegar in maybe 3 years
Huberdeau on a similar timeline
You don't disrupt the team. You don't blow up the dressing room. You have a natural transition and continuity, along with a steady stream of new assets over the next couple years. And you still trade all the players for assets, you just do it in a more controlled and positive manner.

Also, Weegar is on a fantastic contract. He’s the most valuable vet on the team, IMO, but also the least likely to get moved.

Also, if you flood the market with all your vets, you’ve diluted it. You’re not going to get as good value if you, essentially, liquidate your assets.

Draft Pick

Would take a hell of a package for Weegar to go. Flames want him as next captain and around to mentor Parekh

I wonder if the reason for considering moving the vets is partly driven by pretty underwhelming offers for Andersson and the realization that the ability to rebuild properly is next to impossible without higher end skilled prospects. As he should all the time regardless, CC is probably looking at all the vets and seeing if there are teams that make some of those desired assets more available.
I could be entirely wrong as well, just a thought. It just went from keeping lots of veterans and retooling to now considering a more proper rebuild.

Also, you don't want all your extra draft picks in one year. Having 5 firsts in one year isn't ideal - if the Flames feed these guys out over the next 3 or 4 seasons, they could have 2 1sts per year for the next 5 years. That would build an incredible pipeline.
And again, it doesn't blow up the team and destroy the room.

I think it's probably more that the vets would see Rasmus being dealt as a big blow to any near-term hopes, thus provoking more of them to be open to/desire to move on to where they can win.
Internally, including amongst players, I think Rasmus is viewed as a pretty important player.

I do not see the 3 guys brought in the summer of 2022 leaving. Huberdeau and the Flames are stuck with each other and Weegar and Kadri are the best 2 skaters on the team and the 2 who really set the culture.
If Backs goes I think it would be at the deadline with the Flames out maybe getting sent to Florida or another contender.
Andersson is gone as soon as today
Coleman is interesting and I could see him being in the mix for hockey deals.
If the Flames traded 3 of their veteran 6 that would be a pretty shocking turn of events as it would signal a tank year or several which would b supported by many here but surprising nonetheless

More likely the opposite, if anything.
But I think it has nothing to do with returns, actually. What I think this says is two things: first, they (mgmt) trust Conroy and like what he is doing (they aren't afraid to let him make the moves he wants to make); and second, they have seen that the fans want this, and aren't running away in droves - that too gives them the confidence to do a bit of a rebuild.
