The only thing I like on Dallas now is Robertson (to then flip elsewhere) and their 2027 1st +.

This is not directed at anyone in particular, but I find it hilarious how many three or more team proposals get floated. Three-way trades are just so rare, yet so many just throw out these random proposals like they think it's a possibility.

The other thing is people's expectations are so all over the place for what Rasmus is worth. Some people are in for a huge disappointment, while some people will be doing linguistic gymnastics when the Flames get more for him than they think.

You're probably not getting multiple 1sts for Andersson.

So the priority should be 1) Getting as high a pick in the 1st round as possible, and 2) Getting additional assets that could turn into higher value.

A piece like Sillinger who is only 22 years old, was a bit rushed into the NHL, but also then got a bit overshadowed by Fantilli and Johnson on the same roster, is a potential shrewd target similar to Bennett leaving Calgary.

Now if somebody in the top 10 offers their pick for Andersson then you'd take that, but overall you need to be trying to maximize total value.

I also think it's not super relevant when the Panthers brought in those guys, the point is you have to identify them and bring them in.

The point was you bring in talented players that you believe in, no matter where you are in your build cycle. If you think a player can have an impact and is undervalued then you'd be foolish to not bring him in because you don't think your roster is ready yet. Even if he doesn't stick with you long term, he potentially becomes an asset you can flip for more picks.

Panthers because the Panthers because they brought all those guys in smartly at different times over the past 10 years, it takes time to build a winner, and it's not just about picking top 3.

Personally would love Sillinger. I mentioned in other threads, but i had the pleasure of watching him in Bantam as he played with my neighbor, and then train during summers as he lived down the street from me. He has a high high high give a sh$# meter and just as high work ethic. I met his family too, and my kid had the opportunity to play his his cousin too this year. They are a blue collar family with that same work ethic. Obviously I'm biased, but I think he would fit the culture the Flames are building like a glove.

Who said anything about expectations? Holding Conroy to fantasy trade proposals is almost as dumb as telling people to stop having fun with the conversation while we wait for the actual trade to happen.

Playing armchair GM is fun and trying to put myself into Grier's mindset for how to turn his organization around makes it obvious that he needs one thing this summer: Defensemen. The Sharks need vets to turn their D squad into an NHL D squad and they also need RD prospects to add to the empty pipeline.

The shortsighted posters on this board will yell "pick BPA forever!!!!!" but that is not how you build a team and it is not how you deal with organizational depth. This is a good learning exercise that many who want a rebuild should take notes from - how do you get out of a rebuild once you have a pile of prospects from years of tanking?

Honestly, I think Grier has a plan that involves aggressively upgrading his D group this summer so that when Askarov takes the net next season he is not getting destroyed night after night. If he misses out on Andersson and Ekblad then that objective becomes almost impossible to accomplish.

Honestly I'd rather be surprised by a trade return than have that trade fail my overheightened expectations. I'll keep being okay with the 20th OA and Sillinger range of trade ideas.

Thomas Harley is not getting moved for Rasmus Andersson. He is arguably a top 15 d-man in the entire league.

But picks and more picks, so you can use it to get better players.

My question is why do you like to settle on the middest of players.
What players do you not consider to be mid? That's what I'm after.
You seem to dislike all players and even prospects like McQueen.

If you are of the mind that the Flames should not acquire ANY players I guess that's clear. Seems limiting but ok.

Go for it.

But if you (or other posters) want to punch holes into my fun then bring something more interesting than "I don't want to be disappointed" or "I can't understand how that could possibly happen". Not replying at all is also an option.

Instead of murdering my F5 waiting for the trade, I am now at the point of trying to look at all of the other teams to see which team could help the Sharks D depth more than the Flames. I honestly do not see very many options for the Sharks, which should increase their urgency and desperation to not miss out on the available options.

This draft promises to be interesting and I am here for it!

Sillinger and 14 would be a homerun in my eyes. Sillinger and 20 would also be pretty good.

If Conroy can actually extract that type of value? It'll be a good draft weekend.

Andersson and 32 for sillinger and 14 if they won’t go straight up for Andersson, would that be good( I am bad at value)

Sounds reasonable to me, but I am also bad at value.

If we got pick 17 from MTL in a trade for Andersson, how many spots do you figure the Flames would be able to move up by trading 17 & 18 together?

Probably just 8/9. I'd rather use both selections, given how wacky this draft is. Might be better to have more darts.

If you add them up (17+18), that's 35; we can move up 35 spots. Which means, we can get to #1 really, really easily on Friday's draft. In fact, we'll have some spots left to use at next year's draft, 18 to be specific - so we can do the same thing next year too to get to #1.

Schaefer/Misa and then McKenna, here we come.

Like I said 1st liners. Be it via draft picks or accumulating picks to trade for impact players.

Now you’re going to whine because I dislike McQueen but I’ve stated others I like. Is been stated it’s a top 10 sans after that it’s a crap shoot. Mcqueem isn’t top 10 for me. So if we trade into the top 10 you go big or you can grab a Martin.

Overtime you can start filling in the others even though we have a pool of players for middle 6 roles. So why use our best trade asset to settle.

If Columbus is interested in Andersson, is there an opportunity for a bigger swing.

To Columbus
Andersson
Zary
(draft pick if required)

To Calgary
Johnson

Columbus has Lindstrom in the system, Zary would be a pure winger for them. Columbus gets a veteran upgrade on D and a young winger with offensive upside.

Might have to wait until Ekblad decides. Both LeBrun and Seravalli are saying it is trending that Ekblad will hit free agency
