Report: Sens, Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Habs, and Bruins have all looked into Andersson
https://rg.org/news/hockey/jackets-s...eing-andersson
Quote:
“The Flames are definitely listening and exploring their options,” the source said. “I’m hearing the Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Canadiens, and Bruins have all looked into Andersson.”
Another NHL source told RG that the Ottawa Senators were also pursuing Andersson.
Neither source knew for sure what the Andersson camp is asking for on a new contract, but with the NHL salary cap expected to rise and plenty of teams needing a top-four right-shot defenseman, there will be teams willing to meet his salary demands. Out of the teams listed above, the Columbus Blue Jackets have the most cap space to spend. According to PuckPedia, the Blue Jackets currently have $40.4 million in projected cap space. The Bruins are at $23 million, the Red Wings at $21.3 million, the Senators at $10.7 million, and the Canadiens at $6.1 million.
“The Blue Jackets make a ton of sense,” the first source said. “They have all that space, they have two first-round picks this year, prospects, and some are NHL-ready. The Bruins—I can see that too, after they lost [Brandon] Carlo on the right. But are they trying to get younger? That would be a heck of a top four for them with a healthy Hampus Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy alongside Andersson. As for the Canadiens, you know they have draft collateral and some blue-chip prospects, but they would need to move NHL roster players to take the cap hit.”
As for the Senators, RG has previously reported that they have been coveting a right-shot defenseman since last offseason. Their second-pairing right-side defenseman this past season was Nick Jensen, but he is now a 35-year-old unrestricted free agent. It makes sense that the Senators would want to upgrade that spot with someone like Andersson.

I think we can dial down the panic about needing to trade Andersson ASAP.
The draft is in 2 days.
UFA frenzy is in 6 days.
If Andersson is still on the roster in 2 weeks, then you guys can start to panic.

So we want 2026 picks for him? I'd rather he be gone by this years draft.

2026 picks would be fine and perhaps better.
They should trade him when they get the best price.

From Aaron Portzline this am
Doesn't sound as if there's been much movement recently between #CBJ and pending UFA D Ivan Provorov.
Sense I get is that GM Don Waddell is working the trade phones hard to get a deal done for a right-side top-four player. Those aren't easy to find, so cost is steep.

It'd be funny if the Flames traded Razz to CLB and then signed Provorov as a UFA.

We want a potential #1C for him. It doesn't really matter which vehicle we use to achieve that goal so long as we meet that objective.
My preference is a trade with the Sharks to get Misa. I would put any combination of my available trade chips toward that:
- Andersson
- Zary (if contract talks are not going well)
- both of our 2025 draft picks
- Mews or Brzustewicz
But this would only happen as a trade floor deal because the Sharks will wait to see if the Islanders surprise everyone and pick Hagens. Once Schaefer is off the board then the Sharks might be willing to move.

I want an Andersson trade to SJ as well but it's not for pick 2.
Right now I feel like it's written in the stars that Razz will be traded to Columbus. Anderssons ties to Monahan and Johnny and still having intertwined families paired with how aggressive it appears Waddell is being. Andersson will be Jacket.

I'd like Conroy to trade him at the time that best maximizes our return of course, and 2026 picks are ideal... but there's also a part of me that wants him traded before the season starts in order to avoid an injury situation. This is a critical trade piece for us that we have to get right - but if Rasmus starts the season with us and gets injured (particularly with a major injury), that could really affect his trade value.
I'd err on the side of caution and get this done before this season starts. Just me though.

I'm sure Conroy is looking for a high level prospect or young NHLer first and foremost but if any draft picks are coming back the 2026 draft would be better as they already have 7 picks in this draft which isn't considered a very good one.

I mean... you are kinda proving my point for me.
If the Sharks want to upgrade their D group (and they desperately need 2 top pair D and maybe a second pair LD as well) then they are going to have to make a trade that beats out the other offers. Offering Bystedt + 30OA won't be enough for the Sharks to get Andersson.
Moving #2OA makes sense:
- The Sharks do NOT need Misa when they already have Celebrini, Smith, Eklund, Musty, Bystedt. Adding another forward to that group is great but it does run the risk of becoming a top heavy team with no D and a difficult cap structure (see Leafs and Oilers)
- If the Sharks do want a middle 6 upgrade, Zary can be that guy
- If the Sharks want to focus on upgrading their D both now and in the future then they can get Andersson and Mews and the 18OA pick, which they can use to pick another D (Hensler)
Not moving #2OA makes sense:
- They get Misa who is a great asset but they miss out on Andersson who ends up in CBJ or Buffalo or something
- Their D is still a dumpster fire and they are going to be back having this same conversation next year after another 300+ goals against season.
If I am Grier, I would see if Schaefer falls and then be moving #2OA for the biggest upgrade to my D depth chart.

2002 Tampa traded #4 overall tp PHilly for 2 2nds and Ruslan Fedetenko..
A 27 win team who needed to upgrade. That deal propelled them to the playoofs the following season and game 6 of the finals the year after,

Ras isn't getting moved for #2 OA.
The Sharks would be happy to pick there and have enough other assets to secure win now pieces to complement their core.
Just because they have a deep pool of young talent doesn't mean they're dying to use that asset. The #2 pick is a pivotal piece for their rebuild.

Bysted + 30 OA would be robbery.
Andersson plus 18 and 27 2nd for 2nd overall.

I mean, I see what you did there, but are you really suggesting Fedotenko's 30 and 40 points in 03 and 04 was the reason why TB suddenly became a good team and not the fact that their young core significantly improved?
