And honestly, at this point, he hasn't really been in the position long enough to know whether he's good or bad.
The moves he has made so far seem to be going in the right direction, but there's plenty of time to prove that he doesn't (or does) belong on that list.

It would have been more amazing if a Canucks chimed in here after the Lindholm trade! haha

I would quietly love to go that route. But when you have a 23 year old stud goalie and multiple vet NMC's blocking trades, what else can you really do but retool on the fly.
I could easily accept a true rebuild through the draft which requires top 3-5 picks, but it's just not going to happen. That's why I don't get when people don't want to see Conroy make trades for players that help now. The team finished with 96 points while having the 26th offense. For better or worse, I don't think management is going to dismantle that, but will try to build off of it.

The way I see it, the choice is to be in the mushy middle just outside of the playoffs or be in the mushy middle on the side of making the playoffs with the chance of doing better than that. I'd rather be drafting every year in the 16-21 range than the 11-15 range. Neither way is a great recipe for building a true contender, but at least one provides more entertainment value and chance to win.

Conroy inherited a 93pt capped out older team and in 2 years has vastly improved the prospect pool, made the team younger, lots of cap room, and improved 3pts in the standings.

I wonder about the penguins as trade up option.

They have the two picks, 11 and 12 now.

The value for 18+32 is very close to 11.

They really need to restock their prospect pool quantity and quality after trading so many 1sts over the years.

McQueen might still be available there.

I was thinking of this as I did the draft prediction thread stuff... But based on where the Pens are at now I'm guessing they'll be more eager to trade up if anything than trade down. But who knows.

The biggest #### up was not having Eichel’s back with team drs pun intended.

But seriously, Adams is GMing on expert mode since Buffalo would be impossible to convince people to play for. They’re probably on every NTC list which rules out like half the NHL since GMs hand them out like hot cakes now.

Boy I hope the Flames aren’t all in on McQueen, highly overrated because of his size. Would be pretty disappointing I think.

Yup, if you're gonna move up to that range it's for a falling O'Brien/Martin. Although it sounds like they won't make it past 8.

Glass sounds like adding a body for the sake of adding a body.

I think they run with Kirkland or open up the spot for someone in the minors.

Do you actually bring anything of value to this place ? All you do of troll and act like a pest and bringing nothing to any discussion. Surprised you haven’t been tossed from here.

Use the block feature or if you can’t stop baiting people and go sit in a corner.

IDK, Lindholm and Zadorov are killing it in Vancouver…oh wait. Well I mean New Jersey just loves that they have Toffoli now…oh wait. Ok ok Washington, they’re must really be pleased with Mangiapane enough to extend him…oh wait.

Alright alright, here’s one long term play. Tanev in Dallas! Wait no.

Ok so not those guys, but Philly! Philly and Kuzmenko, now that’s an acquisition they’re pumped about. Ummmm, I guess not him.

There has to be a trade Conroy has blundered. I know! That Markstrom one. With his success out there so far and all they gave up was pick 18 and Kevin Bahl, come on. You have to put Conroy in the top 15 worst GMs. All time even.

I'd say the two worst moves by Conroy have been the Honzek pick and the Tanev trade. Grushnikov looks like nothing, but assuming Battaglia was from the Dallas pick, he's looking pretty good. I wish that the cap space would have been weaponized at least somewhat, but I don't know if that's on Conroy. Hopefully it happens this year.

The rest of his work has been quite solid. I really like the Coronato extension. Last year's draft was outstanding. Zarubin had 93.5%. Battaglia had 90 points in the OHL. Mews was over a point per game as a defenseman. Luke Misa was extremely good value. Hoskin had a great first year. Gridin did about as well as we could have hoped. And even for the 2023 draft, most of the picks outside of Honzek look pretty solid, especially Suniev. And even Honzek isn't terrible. It's just that most of the players drafted around him are looking a lot better (Sandin-Pellika, Moore, Perreault, Stenberg, Musty, Ritchie, Cowan, Nadeau, Edstrom, Cristall, etc.)

Glass was very, very good defensively last season. Some of the best chance suppression numbers in the league and a 6'3" RHS centre to boot. I'd take a look.
