So the same effective cost as just paying banking feees. It's still cheaper to use a free online bank (simplii, etc) and pay for the odd draft when you need one.

What a bizarre attitude to money.
"it's only $10/mth, #### it I'll just give the bank $6K so that I don't have to pay fees that they made up. On the upside I get three free bank drafts, rest assured I'll be using those to their full extent."

Royal refunds my $4 monthly fee if I have three active accounts, which meant I had to open a TFSA with them, as long as there is $600 in the TFSA(that was the only one with a funding requirement). So I put that in and bought whatever ####ty mutual fund they have. At least it's growing.
I'm not sure the financial math on that, but it's worth it for the emotional irrationality that has me happy to see the $4 refunded every month.

If the bank is going to hold it for 2 weeks anyway, I will just write myself a cheque and save myself 10 bux...or whatever a draft costs these days.

But you have to pay like $50 and wait 6 weeks to get the cheques made in the first place

That would be amazing if all the banks would actually be willing to work with each other. There has always been a secrecy to who banks with who, so trying to get any bank to agree to share information with another is a joke.
As for the e-transfer limit, you can blame interac on that as they are the ones who set it for their risk. Again, completely agree that it should be raised, but they just don't see the risk v. value because of fraud

You will most likely have a hold on your funds for at least a week, possibly 2. Usually the only way to get it to move faster is if you have funds to cover in case it bounces for whatever reason

I mean, I get the banks would SAY that's the problem. But interac is a cooperative 100% owned by the banks. If they wanted it to do something it would.

Like put the $6K into XBAL 10 years ago, it'd be worth 85% more today.
|
OK let's say I have the same $6000 problem as this guy, where should I put that money so that in 10 years it grows by 85%?

I think the $6000 minimum balance to waive the $30 monthly fees actually helps me save. Eventhough it pays almost 0 interests (yes, there are better investments around, but that's not the point), if there is no minimum balance requirement, I would have blown the $6000 years ago on useless sh*t.

While we're ####ting on banks.. a few weeks ago I was at crossroads market and forgot to get cash out of my bank. So I used the on-site no-name ATM fully expecting to get bent over a barrel: $3.25 fee. Then I see my bank also charged me $1.50.
Avoiding bank fees is one of my cardinal rules, and it was shocking to see how high they've gotten.

I would rather not buying the items rather than using those no-name ATM. You know you are getting r*ped by the fees, but you never know if your card information may be stolen as well. I never trust these no-name ATMs, or even bank ATMs at gas stations and convenience stores...

I know it is likely an unpopular opinion round these parts but finding out a friend of mine is the kind of person who crosses picket lines to shop? Had no idea I was friends with someone of such pathetically weak moral fibre.

Yeah! At least buy it online and have it delivered to your house so nobody sees you! What an amateur!

screw that. Someone’s displeasure with their career does not constitute a “me” problem. Get the fk out of the way.
