Vespas are exponentially cooler than Harleys, all the dentists and accountants dressed up in leather pretending they are in a gang for the weekend.
Small European town = cool
South east Asia = practical but have to pay attention
North America = other than new york or San Fran the roads are not designed for them
Calgary = ride it on the bike paths

I personally think they're pretty neat, and the coolness factor really just depends on the rider. If they have the aura and confidence, then it will naturally come through. If the person's a ######, then the scooter also brings it out IMO. Same with motorcycles. Most of the time, I'm not thinking how cool the person riding it is, it's usually just, guy rides that thing like a dick, and looks like a dick.
My kid used the Ruckus last summer because my euro wife raised in fairytale Denmark thought it would be a good purchase. I'd get anxiety just thinking about him driving it to work and back. Going to Macs or the sushi place nearby is fine but taking busy roads like Elbow drive. Plus it would just rain and was pretty useless on those days.

Nope, I'm buying you a car.
You kid will be safe going down Elbow Drive, with its 500 playround zones

I think anyone who derives their "coolness" from what they drive is objectively not cool.
Motorbikes, to me, are not cool. ######y death traps. I would rather have a convertible to enjoy the nice weather.
I think there is utility in a Vespa. I can wear my suit to work, without sweating or changing, and i dont have to pay for parking. I take non-highway roads to work.
I have told some people about my wanting a Vespa who have reacted in an ultra-masculine way - which, jesus christ, if you are not comfortable in your own masculinity to drive a scooter, you should drop 5 figure on one of those alpha male courses
I didn't realize the forum had completely lost its objectivity. Vespas are not cool. The idea of bombing around on a nice scooter through the neighbourhood with the sun shining is cool for sure. I don't think your experience in Calgary will be the same as cruising down the coastline in italy, stopping in a coffee shop for a latte and a shnapps.
I feel like you'll sell it after it wastes space in your garage for a year.
You suggested putting a jersey and shorts on takes an hour to "squeeze" into, which is more description of putting on a wetsuit than bike clothes, which...this may amaze you...is about the same as putting on a T-shirt and fitted boxers.
You are correct that it's dangerous though, but that's only because most of humanity is awful.

You should have similar riding gear for a moped as you would for a motorbike. If you’re someone who would wear a suit on a Vespa, there’s nothing stopping you from similar gear on a motorcycle.

You wanna start a CP Vespa riding club?
