What would a McDavid trade look like this summer? That trade proposal for St. Louis is actually close IMO. It has to be a big return for the Oilers to make the trade - even if he’s not extended. What does a trade from other teams look like? Especially teams like Toronto, LA or New York that he would probably waive his NTC and consider extending with. Toronto has pretty much nothing to trade them (that doesn’t have an NTC). LA would have to include Byfield.

Maybe. I just can’t see a McDavid trade to LA not include Byfield. They are division rivals. He is the best offensive talent in the game. Extension or not - Byfield has to be in the trade for the oilers to consider a trade.

I think the asking price from Edmonton would have to be Byfield + Clarke + 2 1st round picks + Greentree. Why trade him if it’s not for an absolute hall?

When you consider what he's had to work with, you can make a case he's done a pretty commendable job. He's not ever had a goaltender that was top half of the league to work with.
