If I'm looking at Detroit as a potential trade partner, are you looking at ...
Danielson/Brandsegg-Nygard + Wallinder/Albert Johansson + similar picks?

25 year old Sergachev likely holds higher value than Andersson, so I'd dial back the value a bit.
If we're listening to what Royle is talking about - priority is being placed on moving up the draft board.
If you look at Detroit or Columbus as the acquiring team, that's 13th and 14th Overall. Could something be worked out around that?
Also, I don't know if we're in a situation where Andersson is going to go with an extension. The only way he signs a year out is if it's an overpay based on last year's performance, so...is someone willing to do that? Tough to say.

But that might not stop them from trying to trade for Andersson with other assets, just not the 2oa.

I think 29 is a good age for the Sharks if they want to get out of the basement now and start moving into the playoffs this season. Bringing on Andersson to lead their D group for the next 9 years works great for a group that has no good D right now and no prospects to complete for that #1RD spot.
If the Sharks drafted Mrtka or Hensler this year, it would probably be 5-7 years before he is ready to take over the top spot from Andersson.
In short, the Sharks do not need one or the other, they need both. I am not sure how many teams are willing to part with a top pair D and D prospects.

He was 26, but I grant you that. Rasmus was drafted the year before Serg so really we're looking at a two-year gap. And instead of inheriting the deal Tampa signed Serg to, the team getting Rasmus will be able to dictate their own terms.

Fully agree. Also don’t see CBJ or DET as that enticing when players ranked 12 could go 18 or whatever. Gotta think CC wants top 10 minimum. Mews and Andersson would be very enticing to a team needing both a prospect and an immediate impact like the Sharks need.
Others I would explore, Seattle or Buffalo.

Really really don’t see Detroit as a spot.
I know you guys love the return, but again Rasmus has to extend there to get full value and that’s just not happening.
Columbus… maybe?

Gotta get in top 10 for this draft so unless it’s part 1 of a second package to trade up I don’t see CBJ either. Why trade to 14 when the same player could be there at 18?

I'd actually love to see Columbus because I think it'd be cool to see Mony and Raz back together, and I like the Jackets.

Is it inside intel that Rasmus wouldn't extend with Detroit or just your personal feeling?

Draft Pick

We never rarely get these type of deals anymore, but something like this seems right -
To Buf
Andersson*
Pospisil
Farabee**
Mews
32nd
To Cgy
Peterka
Byram***
9th
Caveats -
* - Andersson would have to sign extension (but Dahlin could convince him and Buf can give him the $8+M he wants)
** - Buf would need to have seen something when he was with Philly; he is from upstate NY
*** - Cgy would need to be satisfied about his character and contract expectations

Curious what Andersson ask is. Being very far apart is interesting.

Mainly my personal opinion, but when I asked about Detroit as an option all I got was “lol no”.
So I’m trusting my gut and my person.

Millions. Last I heard his camp was north of 8.5 x 7-8
I don’t have a firm confirmation but Calgary wasn’t going to commit that kind of money based on where they’re at and the contention window in front of them.

My guess is the Flames offered a contract that had great trade value

In a perfect world, Calgary gets 2nd OA by:
a) Taking on Samuelsson's contract and 9th OA from Buffalo for Pospisil and Brzustewicz.
b) Calgary movees 9th, 32nd OA, and Andersson to San Jose for 2nd OA. San Jose does it because they could still draft Mrtka at 9 or even get the other Eklund brother. There's also O'Brien/Hagens/Martin potentially there at 9 as well.
Calgary desperately needs Misa. Taking on Samuelsson as the #4/5 D with his cap hit isn't terrible, and I think any of us would be happy to get Misa (or Schaefer) at 2.
Buffalo gets grit and Brzu who would be a first-time callup with any injuries on the backend, ideally Clifton's replacement
San Jose gets a top prospect still, 32nd OA they can use to bolster their roster if need be, and Andersson who they can flip if they are unable to get an extension. I think Andersson and 32nd OA is more than fair to move up 7 spots.

14 is a good attainable/realistic spot. You will get a good player at that spot.
Montreal is prioritizing size with their picks. Which means we can jump ahead of them and likely get a faller and potential steal, instead of watching them and Vancouver (or whoever gets their picks) make selections and take whatever is left. If you can get a Bear, Aitcheson or Eklund at 14, that’s some solid work.

I’m sure he’s coming here to join his ex partner Weegar, and long time bud Huby.

That's fine. There more than one dance partner for Anderssons services. More than two even. Teams will still be paying to get him. And they may see him more valuable still due to the fact it'll be a bidding war in FA for Ekblad.
I still say Razz gets traded before the draft. It's a two horse race and there's many teams who want either of them.

Well teams who miss out on Ekblad would be extra aggressive for Andersson. Or you get a guy signed for next year without getting into a bidding warwar for Ekblad

Yuck. That’s not perfect at all.
Samuelsson is a cap dump. He and 9 should come over for 32, and maybe that’s goving BUF too much.
