Top 4 (top 2?) defenseman for 3rd line center. I don’t think the upgrade in first round picks reflects the disparity in those two values.

Would give us great depth at C, though some similar caliber players and no real firm 2nd line C. I wonder in the event of Sillinger being added if Frost could be flipped as part of a package for Rossi?

Kadri/Rossi/Sillinger/Backlund would be a huge upgrade up the middle as a whole
Would rather put Zary at center than Sillinger and believe he would perfom better

Agree. I don’t understand how even the rampant enthusiam for getting rid of Andersson could make this acceptable

22 years old vs 28 carries weight in the equation.

Historical return for a player like Andersson is something along the lines of a mid/late 1st and a B prospect. Sillinger has more value than a B prospect.

Some people are expecting a Karlsson-level return for Andersson, while others feel it will be closer to Hanifin (though better).

Have a look at Lundell 2 years ago. He had 46.5% FO, though admittedly much better 53.5xG%, and 55.3CF%, on a much better team.

22 year olds tend to get better, I know because I didn't think much of Lundell back then, and he absolutely proved me wrong. How did 22 year old Bennett look?

Here's Sillinger a year ago, couldn't find a more recent card:

Sillinger would be a nice add, but if anyone is expecting him to be a #1, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Sillinger + 14th for Rasmus + 32nd would be a great trade.

Luca Del Bel Belluz would be a great alternative for Sillinger too.

I don't think there is a single person here who thinks he's a #1 C

Hanifin, Hronek, Lindholm, and Chychrun are all pretty solid comparables and they went for a mid to late first and some 2nds and filler. That’s the appropriate baseline imo. 14th and Sillinger would be the best trade of any of em.

I've worried a little that Sillinger was rushed into the NHL and hasn't been developed properly. But he's got a great shot, and he could fit really well with Huberdeau.

I could see him appealing to the Flames because of that but I'd certainly be pushing for the first round pick upgrade.

IMO the target should be a young and promising C. Sillinger fits that bill.

For some reason I keep thinking Stars though. This is exciting news though

Big pass on Sillinger. He isn't very good.

Ya... I would be disappointed if that is the the result of the trade but hopefully 3rd line C is not Sillinger's ceiling.

However, if that offer is out there from CBJ then that is fuel on the fire for other teams to up their offers if they want to make the trade.

For example, if the Sharks were going to offer Bystedt + 30OA then Sillinger + 14OA would force the Sharks to reconsider how badly they want to upgrade their D (and I think upgrading the Sharks D is their top priority). Bystedt may be a bit better than Sillinger but 14OA is way better than 30OA.

This is where the bidding war aspect of the trade could help the return improve. There really are not a lot of comparable trades for this situation where you have a sellers market with a lot of demand for your asset and not a lot of impediments. (Hopefully Andersson does not pull a Hanifin on the trade talks)

So if the CBJ beats the Sharks' lowball offer then the Sharks have to start thinking hard on how badly they want Andersson. This bidding war would be the best way to get to "Andersson++ for a potential #1C" instead of dealing "Andersson by himself to get a middle 6 C and a late 1st pick in a weak draft".

Let's go bidding war!

I do still think Calgary has put priority to moving up in the draft.
I think an Andersson move could play into that as well, whether immediate help or using what they get in an Andersson trade and packaging further.

Which trades are you historically referencing?

I get trying to move up but that’s easier said than done. Not sure why any team drafting top 10 would want to move back in a weak draft.
