I dont really care about Zegras, the fit was never right for us. But I hope this tempers people's trade return expectations a bit.

Exactly.

Frost is a guy that can play a role, and you know what you have for team construction.

Zegras is a giant question mark that you have to play high in the lineup, but he leaves you constantly disappointed.

More talent, but less useful for team building.

Agreed. He’ll put up decent points and is skilled enough for the first line but just won’t be the guy to carry you in the playoffs. He’s destined to be the floater who will get pretty highlight reel goals, but when it comes time to the playoffs where things are tight, he’ll find it hard to bring it up a notch to go through guys. Every team has to be weary of guys like that because they won’t move the dial when it matters most.

That’s fair. I think he is worth the gamble because the Flames need offense but definitely some risk.

I think we saw what happens when you put a guy like that, Kuzmenko, in this type of system. Sometimes you get flashes of individual brilliance, but most the time you get disjointed play that leads to a lot of turnover.

Why?

Trades aren't one-sided, they are two-sided. Returns reflect what you're giving up. Zegras is a head case that takes up a top 6 spot but leaves you frustrated. Him not being worth much does not make other players worth less.

Funny how a few years back, Drysdale and Zegras were supposed to be the two pillars of the Ducks rebuild. Now they're both in Philly.

Not a guy you win with. Glad he's gone somewhere else.

Frost & Farabee for me.

Big part of that is I can only assume Frost & Farabee would rather be in Calgary over Zegras.

Basically he’s inverse Sam Bennett.

Would have liked adding him to our young core at that price. Doesn't mean I am not happy with Froster/Farabee though.

I have not heard anything about Calgary being in on Zegras or inquiring about him. Not a player Calgary targetted as far as I know. Maybe Royle knows something I don't.

This is equivalent to roughly Pospisil, 2nd and 4th. Don't think I do that. We'll see if Zegras bounces back.

Zegras got traded to a place that's less than 3 hours drive to his hometown. Likely not a coincidence.

Absolutely wild how big the fall off with Zegras was though. He looked like a future franchise player 3 years ago. Philly has a great group of young forwards. Let's see if they can manage to not be horrible.
