Sad to see him go. But I hope they don’t start the season with him in the lineup. Don’t need the drama

Glad that it is likely he is traded for a good return. Love the player. He’s been a fan favourite and a great leader. I understand why so many teams want him. His skillset, style and personality matches perfectly with what the Panthers are all about. I think lots of teams see that and want to bring it into their culture/play style. Calgary just isn’t in the right spot in their re-tool for it to make sense to sign him to what he likely wants/deserves. Which is fine. They are deep at skilled right-shot defencemen so it makes sense to trade him at this point.

Perception is weak UFA class for D-men. Andersson becomes a hot commodity. I think the "Flames are willing to wait" thing is the real message. They probably have a price in mind.

Just like Lindholm and Hanifin, thank you for making this choice easy.
Minute muncher, right handed shot, but nothing special.
Not elite at any one aspect maybe other than “staring down”

Don't agree. Guy was 4th in NHL in blocked shots. He will get you 40-50 points. Decent age. Log 20 plus minutes.
Many teams will want this.

Losing Andersson will hurt the team next year, but that's not a bad thing either long term. If the team finishes worse and spots are opened up for Parekh and Brzustewicz to slot higher, I'm all for that if we get a good return.

Offensively the Flames will be hurt by it, and hopefully someone like Parekh can step in and fill that gap somewhat.
But defensively? Not sure that removing the -38 d-man will leave you worse off.
He was an outlier in that regard on a team full of hard working guys. At times was aggressively bad against tough match ups. No shame in it because he wasn't being deployed how he'd be best suited on a deeper team, but after the mass exodus last year there weren't other options.
Flames have some shutdown type young players in the system in Brz and Crushnikov. I wonder if they try them (or look for a stopgap through trade/FA signing).

Not hockey related but this reads as a haiku.

Playing a bit of a Devil's advocate here, but with how Raz played last year and how dynamic Parekh is... I don't know if we're really any worse off offensively. I know it's a lot to ask of a rookie to replace Raz but he also isn't exactly coming off the best year.
Peak Raz, though, I do agree - we should expect some lost offense for a period of time.

I feel like if we get 4th overall somehow, adding #18 to it to get to #2 is a decent overpay, as there isn't much difference this year value-wise between picks 2 and 4.
I would say 4 + 18 for 2 + 30 (Dallas' pick) or 33 would be more equal value

I think people will be disappointed in the return. I don't know if teams are lining up for a -38 player.

Given where the Flames are at in their lifecycle it makes sense to part ways. Get some assets in return and hopefully improve your draft position.

I don’t think people put a ton of stock into the +/- stat.
Really going to depend on the market. Should be able to get a 1st + 2nd at least

He's gotten 40-50 points twice in seven seasons so not sure that's exactly a guarantee.

I have my doubts about some of the teams that have been cited.
CBJ - Why would they give up assets for Andersson when they look to be letting a similar (though inferior) player in Fabbro walk as a UFA?
MTL - Are the Canadiens really at the stage when they’re going to load up on veterans with big contracts? Haven’t heard anything about them wanting to make a big splash.
My list:
CAR - Should probably be at the top of the list. Sounds like they’re moving on from Burns, and Andersson could step right into the to pairing with Slavin. Loads of cap space and assets.
DAL - Have a pressing need for an experienced top-4 RD. Do they have the assets or cap space?
DET - Need immediate help at RD, and they love their Swedes. No problem with having assets to deal. But they already have Seider at RD, and their best prospect (one of the best defence prospects in hockey) is an RD as well. An extended Andersson at $8 mil plus might seriously mess up their long-term depth chart and cap.
FLA - If they let Ekblad walk, they’ll have a huge hole at RD. And Andersson’s $4.25 mil cap hit (or lower with retention), not to mention his connections with Tkachuk and Bennett, would make him very attractive. Don’t have any future assets, so hard to see a deal.
OTT - They’re looking to take the next step and could use help at RD. But they might be hoping they can get that internally from Yakemchuk. And there’s a good chance they’re on Andersson’s no-trade list.
SJ - Want to bring in a veteran RD. Loads of assets and cap space. Might be on Andersson’s no-trade list, especially if his main motivation for leaving Calgary is to play on a winner.
WPG - They’re in Win Now mode and could use a level-up at RD. They may not be keen on paying DeMelo $4.9 to play on the third pairing for three more years. Might be on Andersson’s no-trade list.
I’d say the best fits are CAR, DET, and WPG.

My hope is they can turn Andersson into a decent mid 20s center.
They’ll probably need to pick up a journeyman D or resign Notjoe to add some experience on the back end.
Would be cool to pick up another big bruiser like Bahl somehow. I think Parekh will replace Andersson’s offense and we have a ton of young D that could play bottom pairing or replace Notjoe.
Interested to see what happens.

No thanks. We don't need another bottom 6 forward.

Brz isn't a shutdown Dman in any sense of the word.
Grushnikov probably never plays more than a few NHL games. He's really not that good.
