The first set I bought is the same set I still use (12 years ago. I didn't take up golf until mid-20s)
The name on them is Fazer (1W - PW)
And Arnold Palmer sand wedge
A no-name putter.
I usually hit 94-100.
I've always been of the mind that my bad shots were my own fault, and no club in the world was going to fix that. The my buddy gave me an Adams Fade Control driver that he bought on the internet for $40 and didn't like. I tried it for a round and every drive was on the fairway or within a few feet. Now I can't hit my old driver straight anymore.

Just to clarify, i would never say that hybrid could replace a driver.
Just that if i had <$200 bucks, was a novice golfer, and needed something but could still borrow a driver from my Dad if needed then a hybrid gives me more options/dollar spent and more strokes/dollar spent/game than a driver.
Obviously every serious golfer needs to have both in his bag.

Hybrid: 80% well hit/15% rough/5% trouble.
My problem using a hybrid off a tee is this:
200 yards from green:
40% dancing/40% short/sand/mild trouble/20% big trouble. Average shots to get in 3.5
140 yards from green
80% dancing/15% short/sand/mild trouble/<5% big trouble. Averate shots to get in 2.25.

Sounds like you are definitely a better golfer than i am. I am guessing that anyone that reches well into the intermediate to advanced level is going to have a driver in their bag and know how to use it.
I find that i often look at a typical par 4 with 340-390 yards and can hit my hybrid twice and be very close to the hole. I have pretty good feel for distance (not so much for left-to-right though) so i can let up just a bit on my scond shot if i am within 180 yards. I easily use my hybrid for 25-35 shots in a round. (compared to using a driver for ~14 holes/strokes)
I find i am often in a much worse position on long par 4s and par 5s because i will pull out the driver, only hit it 40 yards further, but even if i am in the long rough i am looking at taking ~20 yards off my second shot. I am usually cursing myself for not being more patient and having used the hybrid.
I LOVE my Two-ball Odessey, i see you have one too!

Yeah it sounds like something I would replace one of my low irons with. I think I hit pretty good with my irons, so I should be ok for now. My consistency needs work, but it is getting better. Something like a Hybrid I wouldn't be purchasing until next season. This driver will be my golf purchase for this season. Plus I don't have anyone to borrow a driver from, unless it's my friends that I am golfing with, but that's a pain. I think I'll head over to Golf Town tonight and check things out.

Strange that the Big Berth 460 and x460 are both $299 here in the US, but $150 different there.
It looks like the only difference between the regular one and the tour is the shaft. With a lighter shaft and lower kick point, the regular would be easier to get in the air. I find the lighter shafts make it easier to turn my wrists over and get a slight draw.

The Big Bertha does seem to get better reviews, if that's worth anything. But the price of the BB is a little over my budget. The x460 is priced at a very reasonable $238, and with the accessories I need to buy will keep me under $300. That should do nicely.

Sounds like you and I play a similar type golf. Instead of the hybrid for my second shot I use my fairway wood. I'm either dancing or with 10 yards of the green. My pitching game is great and often sets me up for a 1 putt for par.
Longer par 4 or 5 is trouble for me also. I pull out the driver and i'm in the thick rough to the right of the fairway most times. Now I use the hybrid and in most cases end up with a par as opposed to a bogie if I persisted with the driver.
Lately i've left the driver in the bag and have used the hybrid for all holes. Last week the guy I was playing with was in awe of the accuracy you get with the hybrid. He borrowed mine on a few holes and became convinced that he should get one for himself

So, these hybrid clubs that people are talking about- would they help me out? My problem is this- with my driver off the tee, the ball goes straight for about 100 yards, then looks like it has hit an invisible post and does about a 60 degree turn to the right. To the point that when I'm golfing with somebody new they ask "what the fata did that hit!?"
Right now I use my 3 wood off the tee, and it only happens with that club one out of every 5 times.

You may be onto something with the weight- I do think I end up with most of the weight on my back foot. But I'm going to ask a silly question- besides my arms what else am I supposed to use to swing with? I mean, I turn my body as I swing.

Reading that is almost creepy man!! It is virtually identical to me!
I even match you with the friend part; i had my good golfing friend using my hybrid (who is an advanced golfer and has a very high-end all-Callaway set-up) and being an awe of the forgiveness in accuracy.

I can do that (wicked slice) on purpose if I really swing and twist my hips a bit early. With me it seems to be a tempo thing.
If my arms come through first, I pull my shot left.
If I open my hips up too soon (cue Fotze), I get a slice.
I will also slice if I'm standing a bit too far from the ball.
That's 3 of about 279 things that can go wrong with my tee shots, but if I get a nice tempo then I'll generally have a decent round (of course then my second shot will go to hell, but that's golf).

Yeah, and I wasn't going to say anything, but you started onto him about weight shift, so I just threw in what sometimes works for me.
I don't mind advice as long as a) I trust the person and b) they are seeing the same issue each swing.
Last month I played Heritage Point and would have killed for any good advice. Every tee shot was out 10 yards and then straight into the turf or a wormburner. Since there are many holes at HP with the long rough, it was brutal. If someone had just told me my ball was too far forward at address, I could have had a much more enjoyable round.

"what club should I use?"
"I would use a seven."
*Ball goes ten yards*
"well that was a big help."
"Yeah that was the big problem with that hit."

Sounds like my tee shots when I use my driver.
And yes the hybrids will help you BIG time!
