Don't disagree. Dallas only has so much money to throw at wingers, and my guess is they are going with Rantanen and spreading the rest around for more physical players.

Is this deal better than the Frederic deal?

The regular season points are still very valuable especially at this price point and the position he plays. The only question is how effective he's going to be on the back half of the deal.

They're bringing back the same loser players from last year? They need a big change...

I dunno about big change. IMO they have a very complete lineup, maybe the most complete in the NHL. They've also made it to the conference finals, for 3 years in a row. They just need that extra little something that can push them over the edge. A player that did what Sam Bennett did for Florida (not actual Sam Bennett, who would cost them $10+ million).
My guess is that they think Rantanen, with a little more time to adjust, can be the difference maker. They also had some bad luck this year with Heskainen and Robertson being injured. Both players did end up playing portions of the playoffs, but the team looks disjointed when they came back.

4 points from hitting a career high in points. 34/35 yo season upcoming. Playoff choke artist.
Not sure what Dallas is doing.

Coaching had as much to do with the choke as the players did. DeBoer didn't get fired because of the goalie comments. The players lost faith in him. The regular season is half the battle and for $4 million you aren't expecting playoff Sam Bennett.

I'll go against the grain and say bad signing.
Dallas is in playoff success or bust position right now; regular season only players are not what they need.
Spend the money on guys who elevate their game in the Spring.

Explanation can be inferred. Coach lost the room.

My mind knows it isnt true yet it goes back to blackmail
DeBoer even made a point to not play them physically
In a rematch you usually expect a LOT more pushback and intensity from the losing team.
They folded even quicker and no star players had big games.

They're doing what teams are supposed to do. They've built a stud core, have an amazing team, have given themselves multiple years of contention and multiple legit shots at winning the Stanley Cup.

It’s almost impossible to get a #2C on the market these days. If the Stars let Duchene walk, they’d be scrambling to find a replacement, and it would almost certainly cost more than just $4.5m a year in cash.

They have Johnston and Hintz. Hintz is a #2 they need to let Johnston fly and see if they have a star 1C.
Coaching was poor but it’s flawed team especially when your 2nd line is Duchene and Benn.

All this is true, but it will still be a black hole in their lineup come playoff time at a key position. They aren't going to get over the hump bringing the same guys back time and again, especially the ones that under-perform int he playoffs.
The smarter thing to do would be let him walk and give an elevated role to someone like Wyatt Johnston and fill Duchene's money with a proper 3rd line 2-way center with some size and snarl.

Team has been to the final 4, three straight years.
Obviously they haven't broken through but that suggests they have a really good team with some players still on the upswing, plus a full year of Rantanen.
I wouldn't be so quick to throw that away.
You are so extreme in your opinions.
