Puckpedia had them at 11.9m cap space before this deal, with Bouchard needing a new deal and several forwards becoming UFAs (Brown, Perry, Skinner, Kapanen). How in the world are you going to find 4m for Frederic, re-sign Bouchard AND strengthen your team? Lol.

If it is for 4 million that leaves them around 8 million to sign Bouchard and one other forward.
Have Arvidsson and his 25 points locked down next year for 4 million.
Henrique and his 25 points locked down next year for 3 million.
Not going to lie, love what they are building up there.

He cost the Oilers Maximus Wanner, a 2nd and a 4th (they also got Max Jones in the trade). They are probably trying to justify what they paid to get him.

Wow, that seems stupidly rushed to me. Guy didn't play in the regular season for them and then looked pretty mediocre all playoffs.
Oilers management: "Let's sign him to a max-term contract!!!"
This is why they never have the right depth pieces to win it all. Just panicky stupid decisions.
...and I like Frederic, but you have no clue if he's really a good fit on this team at the moment.
