You're an offensive team, you need to try and push a bit more, draw a penalty or just try and get a bounce for a little longer before you empty the net and push all the chips in.
I don't think it made a big difference in the grand scheme of things as the game was never in doubt, but I think it showcases how 1 dimensional that Oilers team really is from a coaching staff right down to the players.

I have said this before. The extreme early goalie pull is flat out stupid
You basically are betting that you can keep possession long enough to score before the other team gets it. Given the trouble Edmonton had keeping possession with Florida’s checking, it was not going to work out well.
They might as well have pulled out the big shameless guns and kept holding sticks, snapping their heads back, or diving until they drew a call
It is some kind of record, and a hilarious one, that Reinhart got not 1 but 2 empty netters with over 5 minutes left
It is funny how the panel marveled at practice at how fast the Oilers practiced and wondered how any team could skate with them. Honestly the puck and the play move faster when it is passed than when it’s skated. Pressure them, funnel them, cover pass options and make them take routes that are dead ends.
The handoffs were exquisite.
It was great to watch McDavid try to run a gauntlet of 3 Panthers down the boards. First guy gets a piece, the second gets a bit more and hands him to Forsling, who has been reading the play and staples him to the boards. Oilers lose possession. Board battle behind the net. Leon loses. Panthers clear the zone
Knob had no response to the checking and the 7 minute pull was flat out stupid
He is no different than every other coach there. When times are tough give the wonder twins the reins. Works against a lot of teams, but not against the Panthers.
Better luck next year

This will be my only comment on this, as this is neither the forum, place, and to be quite honest, dissentowner, you make yourself look extremely petty and immature from all this.
When i was asked to move to Regina for work, I wrestled with the decision to the very last second. I was convinced I'd stay in Calgary, then an offer came, and I had hopes and dreams. Then i talked to my family, my wife, etc. Never once was I 100% in. I was moving AWAY from my family also. I had family and friends tell me not to do it. I had family and friends tell me to do it. i had family and friends tell me it was my decision. I was 29 years old. It didn't matter than i felt secure in my life and work in Calgary. I was an emotional wreck from day 1, not wanting to disappoint anybody, and also make the best decision for me and my family. Up until the last minute, I had flip flopped between taking the offer or telling my company that I had led them astray and i wasn't comfortable. In the end, i chose the former and I would never look back.
I wrestle with these same decisions today, as our family is back in Calgary, and i empathize with what Gaudreau and his wife chose to do. And guess what? When you get married, your family becomes just that. You and your spouse. Your parents and siblings become secondary to it all. I want to be close to my parents and extended family and have TIME with them. But for me and FAMILY (Wife, sons), it's not the right time. For the Gaudreau's, it 100% and unequivocally was. Meredith has come out and confirmed that. Johnny came out and confirmed that. But you know what's even more important? NONE OF THAT WAS ANYBODY'S BUSINESS AND THEY OWED NOBODY NOTHING. The fact that they both came out in their own way and time to "justify" their decision, was because they wanted to.
Decisions can be changed and made at the blink of an eye. There is no such thing as the right decision. The right decision or wrong decision will never be equal in it's effect to the people around, but if it's the right decision for your family, then there is NOTHING that is wrong with that.
So if i could give you a word of advice dissentowner, put this to bed, and leave it alone. I get you're a passionate fan, as we all are. But there are certain topics that you shouldn't have such a hard line on, given that you are not in their shoes, source or no source.

If he wins a cup with his new team, it isn't going to hurt his legacy in the least. If he stays in Edmonton and NEVER wins a cup, that will hurt his legacy.

It’s ok Edmonton. History is on your side. The only other two franchises that lost back to back finals was the Blues and Bruins. St.Louis only had to wait 49 years to win the cup after 3 straight finals losses and Boston 33 years after 2 consecutive finals losses. Good thing the Oilers have lots of assets and cap space moving forward to get better!

If its not Toronto, I do think Carolina could be a pretty big draw. Solid team, consistently a contender, and tons of cap space. Would be a deadly 1-2 punch with him and Aho. Plus he'd be out of the spotlight, similar to what he got to have in Erie

It was such a blowout, that McDavid and Draisaitl didn't play a single shift after the 5-0 goal.
5 minutes left in the game, and the Oilers literally gave up.

From what I heard due to time restraints teams were asked to keep dialog short and to the point, Bettman congratulated them in opening statement.

Yeah I think Johnny and Meredith did want to stay but with Guy's heart problems and the far travel for visiting family's I think it weighed on them and in the end they probably just said lets try to be close to the family.

I suppose that a McDavid-led team will never win a Stanley Cup. He only gets his name on the cup in the final years of his career, when he is no longer the leader both in the room and on the ice.

Maybe his legacy will be having the balls to say, “it’s not my fault they drafted me. I stayed as long as I could and worked with them as much as I could, but in the end they’re just not a very good organization and it’s better for me and my family that I move on.”
Look at a guy like Iggy. He’s proven time and again that he can be an integral part of championship teams (juniors and olympics). He was loyal to Calgary to the point that his legacy has been tarnished by never winning a Cup. He could have had one or two at least if he would have moved on in his prime. A generational player who to this day is still snubbed (NHL top 100) because the Flames were never able to build a championship team around him. Obviously he cemented his legacy in Calgary to Flames fans through his loyalty and awesomeness… but it’s a shame that the hockey world never got that shot of him with a Cup over his head.

That makes a lot of sense, but in Edmonton, he gets exactly what he got in Erie...to be a runner-up.

You’re entitled to that opinion. I and most Canadians feel otherwise. I don’t take sports as seriously as most here.
