I wonder what the Oilers would pay us for the 32nd OA pick so they could roleplay as Stanley Cup champs at the draft like they did last year.

I'd definitely trade it for their 2027 1st and watch it become Landon Dupont

Driving today with my Flames car flag and I'd encourage y'all to do the same: Great way to mark territory and also help clean the air.

I noticed yesterday (WELL before the game) that two of my neighbours sporting multiple (c)Oiler car flags on their vehicles had already removed them. (They knew.)
Air quality improvement on my street was immediately noticeable.

Flames are tied with the Oilers in the standings again today. Hopefully we climb past them and never look back next game.

Recency bias? Am I crazy? Could this team miss the playoffs next year? Old team getting older, several deep runs in a row, emotional baggage of losing in the final again…I don’t think they’re a lock, that’s for sure.

Throw in some Mavi uncertainty and everything is possible.

We don't know if they will make trades or sign free agents, but this is their current projected roster (current ages in parentheses):
Hyman(33)-McDavid(28)-RNH(32)
Arvidsson(32)-Draisaitl(29)-Kane(33)
Janmark(32)-Henrique(35)-Podkolzin(23)
Viljami(22)-Samanski(23)-Frederic*(27)
Ekholm(35)-Bouchard*(25)
Kulak(31)-Nurse(30)
Walman(29)-Stecher(31)
Emberson(25)
Skinner(26)-Pickard(33)
*assumed to be re-signed
Cap space: $12.5M - $3.5-4M for Frederic = $8M...which will certainly be eaten by Bouchard's contract at minimum.
I have no idea who Viljami or Samanski are, but they are on the depth chart as placeholders. After seeing the reported contract for Frederic and what could be expected for Bouchard, I can't imagine there will be any cap left for anyone other than replacement level players.
They are still only paying $3.6M TOTAL for their goaltending...and getting results in accordance. I wonder if that will change.
That's a whole lot of guys that are past their best before date. Even their top 2 guys are probably post apex at this point, but we shall see. It doesn't bode well for them long term, so even if they're a playoff team this year, I think they're in serious trouble after that as almost nobody is signed beyond next year right now.

It's not crazy to think they'll regress again next year.
18/19 - 79 pts
19/20 - 96 pts pace
20/21 - 105 pts pace
21/22 - 104 pts
22/23 - 109 pts
23/24 - 104 pts
24/25 - 101 pts
This is a team that isn't getting younger. All it takes is another 5 pts regression and they could be at risk of missing the playoffs sooner than later.

no clue either but you can replace one of them with 29 year old Tomasek, I don't know who he is either , but he's signed for next year

Despite the final chapter of the Edmonton Oilers‘ season being written at the Stanley Cup Final, sources say the NHL plans to continue to examine Edmonton’s use of long-term injury (LTIR) salary cap relief with forward Evander Kane in the days and weeks ahead.
The NHL may require more information to satisfy itself that Oilers complied with the Collective Bargaining Agreement when Kane returned for the second game of Round 1 against the Los Angeles Kings after not appearing in a single game during the regular season.
The NHL is still deliberating on next steps. There is the potential for retroactive punishment if the league finds the spirit of the CBA was violated. No team in the salary cap era has been punished for LTIR usage, despite the hot button issue and no shortage of complaints in recent years.

According to Puckpedia, they signed a 29 year old RW/C out of the SweHL named David Tomasek to a $1.2 million one-way deal back on April 2nd. I would assume he is penciled in somewhere

Samanski is a 0.75 PPG German forward from the DEL. Viljami Marjala is a Finnish forward who was a PPG scorer in Liiga. Both are signed to ELCs.

Oilers have had 2 long seasons as well. Wouldnt be a surprise to see them come out flat next year. As age catches up to them they may not be able to pull together the streaks they have in the past to overcome this.

So the NHL would have allowed the Oilers to win the Cup using Kane in possible violation of the CBA, and potentially subsequently punished them retroactively for using him illegally? Maybe they should have considered this before allowing him to play.
