The Flames still get the three best pieces.

This would be with Buffalo agreeing to the 8 year ask from Anderson and Dahlin convincing him to come. Buffalo takes one of Calgary’s mid 20’s wingers making $5M+ and gets a good prospect, cheap NHLer, and a mid 1st.
Calgary gets in the top 10 and gets 2 RFA’s they are willing to sign for 7-8 year deals at their asking price.
Is it just way off? Bad for the Sabres? Bad for the Flames? Do both 1st need to be in the deal? Take out Sharky/Farabee? Add Zary?
|
This would be a massive win for the Flames. Not a chance in hell.

Both of Peterka and Byrum could be in the offersheet range of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd offered up as compensation. I don't see any single team being able to make a deal to add both of them.
I doubt the Flames can pry either away without including Parehk or the 26 first.

A dreamers dream can only be a dream. Man, Anton Frondell at 3rd OA would be epic for the Flames but alas, we don't have the hefty cost in our pockets to make it happen.

Byram is vastly overrated if folks think he is a better dman than Rasmus, or Rasmus is underrated.

Over 7 million dollars for Byram would be crazy. If you are offering the amount needed to get to a 1st, 2nd and 3rd you would probably be at the top of the compensation for that category which is 9.36 million a year. To offer that for either Byram or Peterka would be crazy.
Byram is an offence only dman who has a career high of 38 points in a season and his second best season is 29 points.
Peterka got 50 points in 82 games in his D+4 season. Coronato just signed for 6.5 million a year after his D+4 season where he was on pace for 50 points over 82 games. Not sure why someone would offer him almost 3 million more a year than Coronato.

Byrum just turned 24 last week. At the completion of his age 23 season, Rasmus Anderson had played 160 career games and had 7 goals and 34 assist over those games. Slightly better then what Byrum did in 80 games last season.
Someone signing Byrum for 8 years this summer gets his age 24 to 31 seasons. So yeah he's worth considerably more then Rssmus with only one year to UFA.

Sure but there is also almost a 5 year age gap to consider. Anderson extension pretty much kicks in when he is 30. It’s not going to age well

Would you trade Coronato for a first, second, and third?
Flames were smart to lock him up. They also burned a year of his ELC and got one less year at the cheap ELC rate.
The compensation ladder is 7.02 to 9.36 and change. If a team like the Rangers wants to try an offersheet, they'll go to the top of the ladder. So that's why it would be 2.8 more than Coronato. Is it unreasonable to think Peterka would get 7 .02 given that he's had two seasons of 25 plus goals to Coronato's 0?

Coronato had 24 goals in his first full season. Also the proposed deal for Petkera isn’t just a ridiculous cap hit it costs you 3 draft picks.

First off I don't think the Flames will do this. But a team like the Rangers might. They have some elite players, a new coach, and are one season from the Predidrnts trophy and a Conference Final loss. They likely still think they're more that team then last year's mess. If they were to be this brazen, it's likely a bonus heavy deal as I read that the Sabres don't really like paying big bonuses. Maybe it's just some best writer who watched saving Sakic.
Mediocre FA class and no one's really up against the cap. So teams may be willing to do things to try and get better that seemed absurd in the past.
Dismiss it if you like. But it's just as plausible as the Sabres getting rid of guys like this for spare parts.

Peterka would be offered 7,020,113 which would be a 1st and a 3rd.
Nobody is going to over him 7,020,114 which would be a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd. That would be insane. If they are going over the 1st and 3rd compensation level to get him in all likelihood they are going to the top of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd compensation range which would be 9,360,154.
Yes, I could see him getting 7,020,113 which would be a 1st and a 3rd. I cannot see him getting an offer sheet that bumps him into the 1st,2nd and 3rd category though.
As for the bonus example, Peterka cannot sign a contract with bonuses so that is not an option for the Rangers.

Or, hear me out, one is a cost-controlled RFA while the other isn’t even a guarantee unless you convince him to sign with you.
