Magpies. They are in the greenbelt trees directly behind our fenceline. We have been doing battle for the last few days. They are incessant and they are winning the battle. My super soaker quiets them down for only a few moments. I'm pretty sure they are laughing at me.

I was outside and spotted one that looked like it was sharpening its beak along our eavestrough before it and its cohorts went after some robins.

I really don't know how to describe it. It was like the magpies mounted a counter-attack. It was almost as if they were... organized!

Driving down the highway today in a decent rain and I came up on a struggler going 85 in a 100 - no huge deal I can pass. I saw an opportunity after a semi so I downshifted to pick up some speed and BAM! SHE LOCKS THEM UP! I was far enough back but Jesus. There weren't any passing opportunities and this woman did that for every Semi! Like don't go on the highway if you get scared into locking up your brakes every 2 minutes.

My Dad, now 70 has lost 90% of his hearing in one ear, and 50% in the other. While he uses a hearing aid, he has still lost a lot of his ability to socialize.
I wonder if there is some sort of a course in alberta, or Calgary that is tuned to helping seniors adapt to being Deaf. Since ASL is likely out of reach for him.

I am in that situation myself, been wearing hearing aids for over 10 years and my attitude towards socializing has changed significantly.
I believe if someone wishes to speak to me the onus is on them to make themselves heard and understood rather than me making tiresome efforts to interpret the garbled words they were uttering to the world.
A failure to communicate is not always the deaf person’s fault.

They do make glasses that auto generate subtitles inside of the lens via microphones. I’m not sure if “reading” a conversation would be a benefit or a hindrance (or even possible depending on age and reading ability) but it might be at least worth a look. Just hope you don’t have any friends with a heavy Irish accent.

Oddly enough I looked into these to see if I could get an upgraded pair of computer glasses to help record/auto-dictate certain meetings/conversations to save time.
The ones you are mentioning are like $500 USD a pair and IIRC and it's a pair of dumbed down XR glasses seemingly looks like a compressed DOS green interface showing up in a portion of the glasses. This might be kinda cool as a teleprompter for young people for TED talk presentations, or younger individuals who would like to add a tool to complement lip reading/ASL... but for older people, I could imagine it'd quickly become tiresome if they constantly have to strain their eyes to read stuff like that.
You can seemingly get glasses that does translation to an app for like $50-100. But I've seen people use a hearing aid interface like that and it's also it's own form of annoying. "In real time" dictation doesn't mean lag free. The dictation is usually OK, but can be quite brutal.

Random incomplete street lane re-painting.
I honestly do not understand. You freshed the paint in all 4 lanes but miss this one turn off shoulder? But then it's new paint again further down the road past that turn off?
I don't get it, WHY??

You probably came across work of the Straight Line Crew. The Curved Line Crew will be by in 2-6 weeks to do their part. Union rules dictate the unique skills of each crew need to be respected, so you can't just expect the straight crew to paint curves.

They need the pylon crew to block it off for 4 weeks, 6 weeks in advance.

Totally. They just re-did a bunch of roads downtown where bike lanes are, but never bothered painting the bike lanes back on. So vehicles don't realize it's a bike lane road and it causes all sorts of messes. I don't get why they made that decision..
