didn't he accompany Conroy to Philly when they traded for Frost and Farabee? Guess he's already had a hand in a lot of matters and been working closely with Conroy anyway, so who knows how much will actually change.

Maybe Conroy felt overworked having to be the GM and the vibes guy.

If he is the guy that made the youtube thing this year where we got to follow the team, then he deserves a massive raise!

I imagine you pick up a lot of knowledge after 30 years of being in the front office no matter in what capacity. You also don't last 30 with an organization if you aren't respected.
Looking at his profile, he worked with St. John's in the AHL in a dual role as the team manager and media relations from 1991-1996, then with the Flames from 1996 to now.

Three. Nonis, Pascal and now Hanlon. They had three previously before Chris Snow passed. And still have Jarome as special advisor to the GM.

Cool day to have two topics ...
one where the owner is cheap when hiring GMs and coaches.
two where the team is hiring too many assistant GMs.

Some weird takes in here. How many lawyers or agents have we seen become GMs. Many.

I remember when the Islanders promoted their back-up goalie to GM. That was probably one of the weirdest promotions I've ever seen.

Senior comms folks get a broad amount of experience in most organizations as they're regularly in the rooms during most high leverage meetings and discussions to respond to issues and comms opportunities as they pop up -- providing strategic communication and decision advice on almost every topic.
They often get promoted into senior rolls in organizations because of their broad level of experience and because they're able to understand, boil down and communicate and advise on complex topics quickly and clearly.
Nice to see for Hanlon.

Based on who they are...your second point justifies the first point.
CNRL is known for lower pay, but they reward loyalty by not reducing the workforce during down turns (they have in the past clipped everyone's pay during that period however). Not commenting on whether it is right or wrong in that situation, but I see how the Flames are run as a similar model. The Edward's business model for a fungible resources like oil and natural gas has proved to be amazing...the entertainment business, where there is a salary cap on talent, a draft, and most of all customers that are elastic, well...

Peter is an absolute top-notch individual, and very knowledgeable in the hockey world as well.
While not knowing his specific duties in this new role, he has been very involved in communication with players during trades and signings, and I would expect that would be a large part of his new role.

You don't see the base humour in cheap out on GMs, and are hiring to many assistant GMs on the same day?

Oh I see you pointing out the irony...I'm just hitting you with the irony that your irony is ironic to me.
Or something like that.

Brad Pascall's background is also in Communications (Hockey Canada).
Also, does this mean Sean Kelso is promoted to the top guy in hockey comms?
