Pretty neat that Zelensky himself will be here in Calgary shortly! There's a huge Ukrainian community here and across Alberta.

They know he's not Ukrainian right? And he only learned to speak Ukranian in 2018.

Russian speaking doesn't equate to being Russian. Under the Soviet Union, the Ukrainian language was suppressed and many Ukrainians became educated in Russian instead. Just like how speaking English doesn't make someone automatically English by ethnicity.

Ukrainian is a nationality, not an ethnicity.

Zelenskyi was born in central Ukraine and speaks Russian with a Ukrainian accent. To say he's "not Ukrainian but Jewish" is just stupid ethnonationalist garbage.

He learnt Ukrainian somewhere around late teens or early adulthood, and like many other Ukrainians switched to using it as his first language around 2014, after the first Russian attack.

Yes, he needed to work on his Ukrainian later in life, because he was an actor, comedian.and later a poltiician. There aren't a lot of professions with higher expectations in linguistic skill.

He is Jewish according to Jewish tradition and religious laws (although his current descendants are not as they are baptized Christians). According to Ukrainian traditions and laws, he is Ukrainian and clearly identifies as such.

Ukraine is secular state Ukrainians have always been a mosaic ethnic group going all the way back to their Cossack days (Cossacks by tradition welcomed people from different ethnicities into their society, which became the foundation of Ukrainian identity and culture). There is no strict definition on what is and isn't a proper Ukrainian when it comes to religion or blood purity.
