“I’ve gotta be pissed off that I didn’t do a good job to give myself a better chance,” Stromgren said after his end-of-season chit-chat with team brass. “It’s my third year (in North America) next year, so it’s just going to get less and less opportunities. You’ve got young guys coming in. I’m still a young guy, but you have even younger guys coming in. They want to take your spot and you want to keep them away from your spot. You have to get pissed off. You have to do your best to not give them your spot.

“My highs are good,” Stromgren said. “But I think my lows need to be better.”

“It’s everything — how your days look, how you level out your day to be the best pro possible,” said Stromgren, who turns 22 in June. “It starts this summer … You’ve gotta think of this summer as the biggest one in my career probably. Just becoming a pro, maturing. And just that consistency level, you need to have the mindset for it.

“You can’t be comfortable anymore. You have to enjoy being greasy sometimes, getting under your own skin sometimes to get better.”

“You see Backs do this for 17 years and there’s a reason why he’s done it,” Stromgren said. “It’s because he pushed himself. And I feel like I can grab a lot from that.

I really like that Stromgren is self-aware about what he has to do to make it as a pro. Last camp he looked like a guy who was ready to take that next step but then tapered off as main camp progressed.

I like his skillset and speed so it would be awesome if he could figure it out heading into next season.

Not Wranglers-specifically related, but AHL related:

Since the AHL went to 4 divisions, this is the first time that the top 2 seeds from each division have made the division finals.

Hey Scorp,

Any guesses as to what next season's lineup will look like??
-Parekh, Battaglia, Gridin are not eligible for the AHL (I believe)
-Basha, Laing, Hurtig are eligible

I predict Parekh, and potentially one of Solo or Kuz make the team - and everyone else to the farm. Basha, Gridin & Battaglia back to the CHL.

Suniev - Morton - Hunt (UFA)
Stromgren - Honzek - X
Kerins - King - Laing
Bell - X - Ciona

Kuznetsov - Brzustewicz
Groshnikov - Poirier
Soloyov - Jurmo
Hurtig

Cooley
Sergeev

Would be interested to hear your thoughts!

Because he played his draft year in the USHL, Gridin isn't subject to the CHL agreement, so he can play in the AHL next season.

I'd expect 1 of them to be put into a third pairing role or #7d with Flames.

Is CHL better as an overeager or ECHL?

Could Rapids get some support?

Would think one of Kuznetsov or Solovyov could be in the NHL as #6/7 guy. Gotta give them a chance sooner or later. Jurmo probably doesn't have much of a future and could easily end up in the ECHL.

Solo has a one-way deal next year. I expect the plan has been to promote him to the big club next year, assuming he continues to develop.

If Gridin and Basha both graduate to the Wranglers, hopefully coaching and management push Honzek to the middle. If he can stick at C, he could become a two-way guy. I think he has it in him to become someone like Mikael Backlund, who had similar skillsets when he was a prospect (albeit in a smaller frame).

Can likely Trade Jurmo for a vet forward.

Maybe as a part of a deal, but he's played 17 AHL games and has no points. Can't see him being worth much, if anything.

Not related to Wranglers but interesting sequence in AHL Calder cup finals.

- Charlotte scores in 2OT, but goal is waved off — Abbotsford score on their own goal. Silovs not set at faceoff.

- Six minutes later, Abbotsford scores on the power play
