They’d love to have Wolf. Hometown kid.
I’d be okay with Askarov in return.

If San Jose was considering trading 2OA they could land a way better dman than Rasmus. It's ridiculous to think he could be the center piece on a trade like that. Parekh is the starting point for them to even listen.

Or perhaps coronato+rasmus+18 would be enough
But honestly can't do it until you know Misa is still there.

If you could get 9 from buffalo and it looks like other eklund will be there i think it becomes a much more tempting package for SJ.

Peterka is better than Coronato. Doubt they would want to give up 9 for 32 on top of that

I love Peterka, but somebody pointed out last time we talked about him that they heard he is not well liked in the locker room.

I thought that was Byram, or is he just known for being a dbag?

What?
Conroy gets his number blocked immediately. People don’t realize how good Peterka is

Peterka is an rfa, apparently a bit of a diva, and unsigned. Coronato has a contract with good cost control.

That is a massive overpay for a center prospect who probably tops out as a mediocre number one center or a very good second line center in Misa.

San Jose can offer Ekblad a ridiculous 8 year deal because they've got the space to do so. Ekblad has already won his cup(s), may as well cash in on his retirement deal.
To San Jose:
18th OA
32nd OA
Honzek
Samoskevich
2026/2027/2028 1st (depending on which one Florida wants to give up with the Jones and Marchand deal, San Jose gets the other)
Ekblad's rights to San Jose in an attempt to sign an 8-year extension with him
To Florida: Andersson (50%), Thrun
To Calgary: 2nd OA (Misa/Schaefer), 2027 2nd (FLA)
- San Jose gets 3 1st round picks, can use those to bolster their lineup even more or trade up to grab the other Eklund in the top 10. Let's assume Ekblad signs an 8 year, 10m deal because San Jose overpays for his services, but they're happy because they get him at that deal. They shoot for Andersson next season when Andersson likely hits UFA (doubt Florida can re-sign him). They also pick up Honzek as a project and Samoskevich to enter in their lineup right away.
- Florida opts to release Ekblad to UFA, acquires R. Andersson on the middle pairing with Mikkola, and gets him at a very discounted rate in an attempt to 4-peat to the SCF.
- Calgary is self-explanatory, we offer a ton of draft capital to move up in a "weak draft", however, we grab either a franchise C or a franchise D.
|
Only Florida can give Ekblad an 8 year contract. If his rights are traded, the acquiring team can only give him a 7 year contract.
Plus under your scenario, SJ ends up with two older dmen signed to deals that will end very badly, so that will severely limit their time as a possible contender.
They have the 2oa. They will shoot for a younger cost controlled dman if they decide to move it.

No chance SJS goes for it next year, and almost ZERO chance Andersson+++ goes for 2nd overall. Their roster is bad, and will have a great shot at McKenna in a good draft. They will have to sign 4+ really good UFAs to even sniff competing for playoffs

Totally agree with this, they are horrific, particularly on the backend. It will take them another half a decade to become competitive. San Jose is only entering year 7 of their tear it down rebuild, need to be bad for at least 10-12 years before you show any real results, if you ever do.

Unless a team like SJ is desperate to get better through picks, the Flames just need to get better through constantly improvement. They need a few already drafted prospects to deliver.
I think their #1 center will be traded for our signed in 2-3 years.

Not too sure what ‘going for it’ means in this context but I’ll bet SJ will want to improve. Does that get them out of the lottery all together, I doubt it, but out of the basement? I wouldn’t be surprised if they look to take that step.
I think that is a fallacy that teams openly want to tank. Especially in the offseason. Perhaps some do mid-season or at the trade deadline if their season is already cooked and they have expiring contracts to move or extenuating circumstances (trade requests etc).
I doubt, very much, Mike Grier is saying to ownership or his management team that ‘we need just one more year of being really bad so we can have a small percentage chance at drafting Gavin McKenna’. Very few, if any, NHL operate that way.
The rest of your post, I agree with. There is no assortment of picks/players/prospects the Flames can put together to get 2OA from SJ without Parekh being included and there probably is a + from the flames coming with it.

No chance Calgary gets a sniff of #2 OA without giving up an elite young player or prospect themselves - so Wolf or Parekh. Given SJ already have Askarov, Wolf isn’t a fit. So Parekh is the only piece that fits the bill. And as Hackey pointed out, if SJ put the #2 OA up for auction, teams will be lining up to offer elite assets.
It’s a pipe dream, and I’m skeptical the Flames are pursuing it seriously.

Coronato isn’t being traded either guys.
He just signed long term.
No trade proposals should include any of Wolf, Parekh or Coronato.
Now to be referred to the “HYRDA of the future” this 3 headed monster is here for the long haul.
No news this morning, I did ask about the report for moving up and then someone saying it was false and all I was told was “every scenario is open”
Calgary really wants one of the top centres this year, they’re trying to get into that range as outside of Schaefer they feel the run on them will go early.

Ya that’s a great way to make young players want to sign long term in Calgary. Lock them up and then ship them off to Buffalo.
Coronato is not getting traded.
