Last I heard they're getting into 72 of them if they change over. This is one of those decisions where if we don't drop the F-35 then I will lose a lot of hope for our government.
It's such a no-brainer to buy the Gripen.
First of all, we need to strengthen our relationships with our military allies, and that means buying their technology and equipment.
Secondly, we need to improve our own military capacity, and side benefit of the Gripen is improving our own ability to build weapons.
Third, it creates more jobs in Canada, and these high-tech manufacturing jobs are exactly what we are losing with tariffs.
I think a really compelling future is the EU, UK, and Canada all building internal military capability and specialization and buying from each other as much as possible.
Collective defence includes being able to build and produce the gear your military needs..
