after you're done rafting and eating hot dogs go check out Sunnyvale Trailer Park if i remember correctly its fairly close.

Yeah, that was pretty much what I was getting at. The younger people will love it, the older people might not get out of bed the next day.
It can be rough.

How has no one mentioned catching a hockey game at Sunnyvale Trailer Park?

I have nothing to add except bottle up some of that Coal Harbour water and air and give it to your kids.
There must be something to it.

Not to be that guy but...
Cole Harbour, Crosby & MacKinnon are from Cole Harbour.
The coal harbour is out my living room window, where the freighter boats unload coal for the Lingan Power Plant.

Spent some time in Nova Scotia a few years ago. Wonderful place, wonderful people and beautiful scenery. While in and around Wolfville, take in Blomidon Provincial Park. You need to time it correctly and go there during falling to late falling tide but you can get down and see the amazing sea cliffs of the Bay of Fundy. Amazing geology.
Later, you can take a drive down valley to Annapolis Royal. See Canadian history writ large. Learn about the Acadian people, wonder why all the homes have a large star on them. Don't forget to eat copious amounts of scallops from nearby Digby.
If you have a couple of hours, take the drive over to Lunenburg. Beautiful historic town - a UNESCO site with amazing old colourful houses and a wonderful harbour. My grandfather's family settled there in the 1750's.

Honestly, you'll have a blast just tooling around the Annapolis Valley/Cabot Trail area. Lots of fun things to be done. Halls Harbour is a must.

Nova Scotia and Halifax are awesome. I drove from Calgary to St. John's in my 20s. St. John's was great, Montreal was awesome, and Halifax was way up there, too.
Tidal bore is a total bore. Don't go out of your way to fk with that.

I really liked Halifax, most of Atlantic Canada is really very nice. Lots to see and do.

Also, anyone traveling to this neck of the woods this summer, feel free to send me a PM or post here asking for questions.
I truly love this place, am more than happy to give advice, recommendations, or allow you to buy me a beer

Did a trip last year, Toronto through Northern Quebec, Labrador (had snow in June, took the ferry to Newfoundland, took a ferry from Port-aux-Basques to Sydney, and then across Nova Scotia. Absolutely loved it. Don't know if I could live there, but so beautiful. Going back in August.

We’ve been in all of the Maritime provinces including three times in Halifax. If you can get down to Lunenburg you may get lucky and get to ride on the Blue Nose. The Bay of Fundy is worth a side trip for the highest tides in the world.
With our boycott of all things U.S. we want to return to do some things we’ have done before (Cabot Trail) and some we haven’t (north and west sides in Newfoundland). The Maritimes are amazing. Everyone should try to get there.

My family is doing an eastern Canada trip this summer. Kids are 15 and 18. What's good to see between Halifax and Sydney, and then back to the PEI ferry?

Are you looking for like a detour to stop and see or stay the night?
The Bell Museum in Baddeck comes to mind. Baddeck is a nice little touristy town. (Think a MUCH smaller Banff)
The Canso Causeway is cool given how unique it is. But you can't drive to Cape Breton without passing it.
I cant think of any roadside tourist things that are must see on the drives.
Big Fiddle on Sydney is cool, that time of year there will likely be a cruise ship or two or three or four in port.
The kids might want their picture next to the world famous Lick-A-Chick restaurant.

Honestly, it's my favourite fried chicken.
Some people say it's too salty. But I don't think there's really such a thing.
