I'm sure if one enjoyed games like Left 4 dead etc it could be fun. As a longtime solo game player and someone who really liked Elden Ring I can't imagine ever touching this version for any reason. As a cash grab for their most popular title it makes sense why they did it but I hope it is the exception not the norm.
Edit: since I didn't need to be such a catty bitch I'll ask does it introduce any new weapons or spells etc to the universe or is it mostly just WoW raid style activity?
There is quite a bit added which is why I struggle to see this as a pure cash-grab (added to the fact that they started development before Elden Ring was released).
Each of the 8 characters ("nightfarers") has their own passive, unique skill and ultimate ability, and a unique weapon moveset. I.e. Ironeye is an archer specializing with bows. He has a passive that increases discovery for all members of your group (better item drops), a skill that allows him to dash and create a weakpoint on the enemy, and a ultimate that shoots a massive arrow that staggers the enemy. Bows don't require arrows anymore so they've a ton of fun to play around with compared to Elden Ring.
There are 8 brand-new end-game bosses ("nightlords"). There is a lot of very fun and interesting mechanics they were able create here since these bosses were designed for 3 players. They are challenging but there are weaknesses you can take advantage of for each boss (i.e. the first boss is weak to Holy, so you prioritize holy damage when preparing in Day 1 & 2).
You earn relics from each run (successful or not), and you can apply 3 of these to your character which results in some unique builds. A lot of the relics are unfortunately pretty boring/junk but you can get some cool ones.
WoW raiding is a good comparable, it has reminded me a lot of Oldschool Runescape raiding which is in the same vein.
I totally understand this game is not for everyone. As someone who enjoys new experiences, this game is it for me.
edit: forgot to add that they added a wall jump to all characters which makes movement feel a lot better than Elden Ring

Directive 8020 will feature a choices mechanic like Detroit Become Human. Neat.
Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, Directive 8020, Resident Evil Requiem, GTA VI. Been a tough few years for a fan of story-driven single-player games, but it's finally time to feast again lol.

I really enjoyed Detroit Become Human, but I’ve never played any of the Supermassive games, how are they?
I am very slow at getting through games, I’m currently part way through Cyberpunk.
Been sitting on Spider-Man 2 PC for a while so finally played it and really enjoyed it, looking forward to the next one since it seems to have left an easy opening for the next one.
There's a Stellar Blade PC demo up on Steam so gave it a try, ran really well on my computer and seems pretty fun.

Started on Expedition 33 and man I haven't been that engaged to the start of a story of a game for a while. They did a great job of setting up the world and people.
Not sure how well I'll get at the parry/perfect dodge timing. I'm usually decent at that kind of thing but the game doesn't really give a clear visual indicator like other games so seems like you have to learn each enemy? I'm not usually good at that... I wish they had a difficulty setting to just relax the timing of that without making everything else easier, I guess we'll see how it goes.

There are sound cues that help with timing, and each enemy has its own. I’ve been playing Mother 3 on GBA (release a localized version on Switch, Nintendo!) and it has a similar mechanic where each enemy has a heartbeat rhythm and if you get the timing right you can do combos. Very cool.
I think the latest update added a lighter difficulty with easier dodge and parries.

It is absolutely a rhythm game. There are certain attacks where I do think you just have to learn by eating some damage though; or else I'm just unable to pick up on the sound cues for everything. But as long as you're not facing an enemy that's vastly beyond your level (which are easily avoided), you don't have to do much extracurricular fighting to find yourself at a level where normal difficulty is, if anything, a bit too easy. That's actually probably my only real criticism for the game, but I recognize that getting that just right for every player is impossible. As far as the world and story goes, it's very ambitious and original, so far (I'm just into act 3 and trying to take it slow, you only get to play a cool game once).

I enjoyed Expedition 33 and think it's great to see a small studio rewarded for making a game that's somewhat unique and has one of the better musical scores for any game. Unfortunately it's not GOTY material for me because of how the story gets way too convoluted by the end.
Spoiler!
The story over the first half of the game doesn't even matter as the 3rd act devolves into a bunch of grieving gods fighting over control over the canvases. I just didn't find the family acts nearly as compelling compared to the expeditioners acts and feel this story would have been better served split between two games.

I remembered hearing about all the fuss about Stellar Blade when it launched on console last year, so when I saw the demo on Steam I wanted to give it a try too. I've been trying to expand my gaming styles and library a bit. I liked the demo so much I bought the game.
I'm not very GOOD at it, but I'm having a lot of FUN with it. I'm quite interested in the story. I've got a lot of questions about various people's motivations.
I also like that you get rewarded for sticking your nose everywhere, which is something I've always enjoyed doing in a game.

Remember that dodge is much more forgiving on the timing than parrying, too. You also only do a counter attack if you parry the whole attack. What I did was use dodge to learn their attacks, then I'd try parrying them. If I messed up a parry, I'd just go back to dodging for that attack.
I also went with high HP/Def Pictos, so when I messed up, I wasn't one-shot.

After beating Expedition 33 and just being ruined for all other single player RPGs for a while, I have dumped a stupid amount of hours into Dune: Awakening.
I usually lose interest in survival games like this but right now I'm having a blast with a group of my friends.

I'll go against the grain and say it's not a clear GOTY for me either. I enjoy the game. Just beat Act 1 yesterday. Music is awesome as are the sound effects. I like how the menus aren't paragraphs of stats or text. Nice and simple and easy to get into.
I like the combat system in general but it gets repetitive, and there's bad guys every few steps. Also noticed yesterday that bad guys resurrect when you use the portal entrance to leave an area and return. Bleh, don't like that.
I don't mind the parrying system and feel I get rewarded fairly when I pull it off. What I don't like in the combat are the QTEs to get maximum effect. I have hated QTEs ever since Shenmue introduced in back in the Dreamcast days and I hate it even more when games these days don't give the option to turn it off. I want to watch the beautiful animation play through, but instead I'm paying attention to a square box waiting to press at the right moment, all with sparks and colors flying all over the place. If the QTE took place prior to the animation, I'd be more forgiving, but I feel I haven't gotten to fully watch the attack animations and appreciate them because the QTE happens simultaneously and I am focusing on that. Maybe it's a minor thing nobody else notices/cares about, but first thing I do in most games is go to the options menu and turn of QTEs if they are there. Wish I could do the same here.
Overall a really fun game. Reminds me lot of Persona, but then again I quit Personal 5 about 20 hours in as it got way too boring for me. Hopefully E33 keeps going strong until the end.

In the accessibility area there's an option to have the combat QTEs auto-succeed.. took me forever to even figure out how to even tell when to press them.. who's ever heard of a progress bar around the perimeter of the icon!?
