That's the first time I've seen Frondell ranked at #1.

Cameron Schmidt seems like a candidate to slide to the second round. He is 5’7” and 156 lbs. Very fast, strong skater but so small. Can’t see a team taking him first round.

Seems cruel for everyone to keep giving me hope we get McQueen. Hopefully if the chance is there we move up and grab him, he's a high risk high reward play and that's what we need!

Okay, never mind what I said about Ryabkin yesterday. If the Flames got both McQueen and Cootes I would definitely faint.

Makes you wonder if the Isles go off the board since they moved up 10 spots.

I think unless they trade back and get a huge haul for doing so they are drafting Schaefer #1

I'm sorry, but Patryk Zubek and Matus Lisy in the first-round is downright laughable. Guy saw some impressive stats from the Slovakian Junior league and thought he got the jump on the entire scouting community. Instant loss of credibility IMO.

Isle fans want them to take hometown hero Hagens.
Can’t see them taking him 1st OA but they could trade down to 3rd/4th and get a haul to do so potentially.
Very unlikely but that would be something.

I don't agree.
It's boring if everyone has the same list. I like reading different POVs.
In the case of Bader, he doesn't claim to be a scout. He applies the statistics into the model he's built, and that defines his ranking. It's a completely different approach, and I think it still remains to be seen how good the model is, as he hasn't been doing it long enough to really know.
There is no loss of credibility because he's not a scout.

I don't know about a haul. The top 5 maybe top six are set in stone and I don't know if taking one player over the other within that top tier really warranted expending a ton of assets. I suspect that the offers from other top 5 pick teams wouldn't be much unless they're head over heals in love with a player they know won't make it to them. Otherwise, I think we are more likely to see The isles in this case take Hagens 1st overall because he's their guy.
For the most part, there is no board. I think this is the draft where the rankings gets shot to sheet and players get the Senneke treatment more than teams trading down. And it looks like it'll be a wild one for that.

And to his credit, he's not saying they're close to first rounders but that they show up well in his model and might be worth a late flier:
Quote:
Zubek and Lisy certainly won’t be taken in the 1st round. Probably won’t be taken with the 1st 90 picks of the draft. But as a late round pick, Zubek and Lisy present extremely good value for what you typically get late in the draft. A team should certainly take a swing on them late as the chances you get an NHLer from rounds 4 to 7 is about 15%.

Bader has always had a wonky AF list. There's been some real head scratchers in previous years.
I remember his boasting of Parekhs numbers in his model and that started a wild fire of mockery towards him for even mentioning the name Bobby Orr in comparison.

Isles gm said it so take an offer to knock his socks off to trade 1.
I’m not excited that Utah might trade back. We have the ammo to jump up that chance doesn’t come along a lot.
I’m still high on Hagens or Misa.

I always love your takes and inputs on anything regarding prospects, but that's a pretty out-of-line comment for you to make imo.
Bader has never shied away or hid his ranking criteria from anyone. It's simply a gathering of statistics.
His model also says last year's Flames draft class was among the best its seen in a 34-year span, and this fanbase has been salivating about last year's draft class all season long, so I think his model has some validity to it.
Bader's model is certainly worth the follow and not a simple throwaway

Every scouting thing I have read has Schaefer as the only player with a chance to be a franchise player, he is on his own tier. If they take Hagen's it's because they traded back and got a haul.
