I'm okay with this. Wolfie's a gamer and this will only add fuel to the fire

From my personal experience, it was a two-horse race in voting.

Was Hutson drafted with the pick the Coilers sent in exchange for Kulak?

Is this true? I just manually counted his starts against bottom feeders and I counted 20 of his 56 starts only.

To not vote for Wolf in the top 5 is absurd. Like was said, the voting totals got it right in the end, but every year stuff like this happens.

Not even mad. Without Hutson having the unreal season he did, Wolf would have walked away with it.

Yes, which is good.

Then you remember the Wiz traded Kulak to MTL for Rinat Valiev and Matt Taormina...

Wolf padded his stats against bottom feeders. Got the job done but his deployment was curated
Not sure I agree on the word "padded" ...

I have the splits like this

Opponent
.500 or worse Wolf 73% Vladar 70%
.600 or better Wolf 27% Vladar 30%

or pretty even

Results vs Opposition (% of wins)
.500 or worse Wolf 75% Vladar 83%
.600 or better Wolf 25% Vladar 17%

Vladar with a greater % of wins against non playoff teams

I think they started that way for sure, but it leveled off.

In the end Wolf had 14 starts against elite teams to Vladar's 9

No, it's not. October yes, but after that, no.

Wolf and Hutson had the two best rookie seasons in the last five years, they just happened to coincide.

Hope so.

Part of the Flames secret plan to prevent the Oilers from winning the cup. Trade Kulak to the Canadiens, who will then deal him to the Oilers in exchange for Hutton. Goes along with the Flames trading their best players to Florida.

4th last pick of the draft. I just hope we don't live to regret not picking Arvid Costmar, Massimo Rizzo, or Jeremy Michel instead.

While I agree Hutson was very deserving, I don't see how that applies negatively to Wolf. You could make that argument for a ton of starting goaltenders. Vladar typically received the harder starts on the tail end of back to backs but that's a common strategy that coaches use to bank points, and not a reflection on Wolf.

Keep in mind that Hutson received incredibly opportunistic deployment with some very productive NHL talent (Suzuki+Caufield). Only one defensemen in the NHL who played over 1000 minutes received a higher offensive zone start % in the entire NHL this season (Darryn Raddysh). In the playoffs for example Hutson started just three shifts in the defensive zone the entire series.

Regardless - I think the voting played out exactly how it should have. Wolf's dip in play during February/March sealed it for Hutson.

Reading the voting breakdown I actually noticed that a lot of Philly writers were the ones who didn't rank Wolf as highly or left him off. Seemed like a transparent effort to get Michkov a nom.

I already regret missing out on Massimo Rizzo because that name sounds like something you’d see on a shampoo bottle.
