Default Funeral Music

Hey CPers,

One of my sister's friends has passed away, and she wanted me to ask - do any of ya have suggestions for funeral music? It can be from any genre.

The guy was relatively young, only about 25 years old.

I was at my buddy's funeral last week(22 years old) and the family played songs that he liked. And his favorite song was Fatboy....yes, that terrible dance song........but hey, if that's what he would have liked, you gotta do it.

I'd have to pick "Say you, say me" by Lionel Ritchie.

Yeah, you need to find out some songs that suited that persons life and some songs they liked.

My dad's funeral was a year ago yesterday and I think we played My Way by Elvis because he was a huge Elvis fan. Also had Stompin Toms the hockey song because he liked hockey a lot and he had a Stopin Tom 8 track that we used to play in a van that we always used to drive the entire team to hockey type of thing. Had a DVD made with pictures of his life and tried to have the songs go chronologically with the pictures to sort of tell a story. Many people commented that they felt like they knew my dad better after seeing the DVD at the service.

Never a fun task, sorry to hear about your loss and good luck with it.

My condolences, Rifleman. What a shame.

My friend's little brother passed away young, and Terry Jacks' Seasons in the Sun was played at his funeral.

To this day, the hair on the back of my neck goes up when I hear it.

I went to a funeral of a friends mom way back and they played Season's in the Sun and I will never forget it.

Time of your life or amazing grace (done on the pipes).

VERY emotional songs at a funeral though, never to sure if either are a bit much or just perfect. Depends on the person I would suppose.

Like to add my condolences as well.

Too me this a very awkward song to play at a funeral, especially given the real song title is "Good Riddence". But not many people actually realize that so it could be a good choice.

Anyway 25 is too young an age to die. My condolaces go out to the family Rifleman.

May I suggest Robbie Williams - Angels:

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're grey and old
'cos I've been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel that love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

Chorus

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall

Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

When I'm feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

Chorus

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life won't break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

Repeat Chorus

Personally I love So Here We Are by Bloc Party... I definately want it played on my funeral, which I hope isn't for a long and healthy time.
