Nice work, America. Your democracy is all but eradicated.
Friendly reminder: while conservative leaders around the world (including George H. W. Bush, Margaret Thatcher, and Brian Mulroney) were condemning the Chinese government for the Tiananmen Square massacre, Donald Trump was quoted in an interview with Playboy magazine praising the Beijing regime for murdering hundreds of peaceful protesters.

Quote:
"When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it. Then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength," Trump replied. "That shows you the power of strength. Our country is right now perceived as weak...as being spit on by the rest of the world."

We have one threshold yet to pass.

Right now the Trump presidency can still avoid being imprisoned for their actions. The final step of these events is that armed protestors will meat armed soliders in a standoff and shots will be fired by someone perhaps accidentally leading to panic and a massacre of the protestors. At that point the government likely goes to jail or worse if they give up power and there is no out.

If you look at the French from like 1790 to 1850 it happens like 10 times resulting in either regime change or consolidation of power. Up to that point there appear to be off ramps to diffuse the situation but after that the train is on its course.

Nothing like that happened with the Kent State shootings though.

Quote:
A grand jury indicted five guardsmen on felony charges: Lawrence Shafer, 28, and James McGee, 28, both of Ravenna, Ohio; James Pierce, 30, of Amelia Island, Florida; William Perkins, 38, of Canton, Ohio; and Ralph Zoller, 27, of Mantua, Ohio. Additionally, Barry Morris, 30, of Kent, Ohio; Leon Smith, 27, of Beach City, Ohio; and Matthew McManus, 28, of West Salem, Ohio, were indicted on misdemeanor charges. The guardsmen claimed to have fired in self-defense, testimony that was generally accepted by the criminal justice system.

On November 8, 1974, U.S. District Judge Frank J. Battisti dismissed civil rights charges against all accused because "the government had not shown that the defendants had shot students with an intent to deprive them of specific civil rights."[89][9] "It is vital that state and National Guard officials not regard this decision as authorizing or approving the use of force against demonstrators, whatever the occasion of the issue involved," Battisti said in his opinion. "Such use of force is, and was, deplorable."
In the US, you can kill citizens, call it self defense out of fear, and even the shooters get to walk. Let alone the politicians who cause it.

Seriously? No one in the Trump government is going to jail. They aren't going anywhere. They have control of the military, and can clearly seize the national guard even in a heavily democratic state for their own needs. I'd expect military members voted glaringly for Trump.

Don't worry, he'll pull a North Korea and become 'Leader for Life.'

There'll be a statue of him on the White House Lawn and all of his kids will take turns being President, it'll be like a hot potato that they just pass back and forth.

They're showing another one of those weird round table meetings at the WH where Trump speaks to start, followed by everyone in attendance at the table taking turns to praise and thank Trump.

Currently up: Speaker Mike Johnson!

He just said he'd arrest Gavin Newsom, and it's not a national crisis. It's just another day where he can say and do whatever he wants. The fact that it's Donald ####ing Trump in this position is absolutely insane. He never should have been permitted to run again, and that was the moment America gave up on caring about the rule of law and norms.

It's so far past over I can't believe people are still talking about him and his people ever not being in power. Wake up, ya'll the US done be ####ed.

I think you are missing my point. They could walk away from power and not go to Jail right now. You massacre a bunch of protesters and now you can’t just step down and walk away. Once you hit the Jail or Execution point of tyranny you are pot committed and there is no opportunity for a transition of power.

Essentially compare Putins positions to Trumps. Putin couldn’t resign if he wanted to.

The corruption alone means he's going to jail, there is no way for Trump to step down

Trump doesn't want an off ramp lol. Continuing to try and apply normal reasoning and rationale at this point is genuinely embarrassing.

Ya, GGG, your acting like things are rational. Trump has zero interest in escaping prosecution because it will never come. He'd probably celebrate the killing as the death of a traitor. Not that it matters, given Jan 6th showed you can cheer on a coupe sent to overthrow the legally elected government, and all you get is another presidency.

Like, he's shipping people off to forever slave camps. And that's been happening for months now, and all that's really happened is one guy ordered back for a "real" trial. This is full on fascism. There is no going back for these people.

I don’t know… I’m still waiting to see if he’s fascist or not. I haven’t seen any signs yet… waiting for that “first move”…

Deploying 500 Marines, their rules of engagement still being finalized.

Read a short primer on how the military does things vs how cops do things. One that stood out was if a cop says 'cover me' as he goes after someone, he means 'watch that guy and if they do something, come running' and thats what cops do. Say that to military and when they hear 'cover me' they are taught to lay down suppresing fire.
Could be an issue.

Trump is a TRAITOR to democracy. These protests aren’t even close to half bad as 2020 riots.
