Yeah, I doubt I would pay $350 for a lifetime Plex Pass in 2025. But I bought mine years ago for $99, so I feel like I've got my money's worth out of it.

Whenever you have to draw a flowchart to explain your pricing you done screwed up.

Well the more I use Jellyfin the more I like it. The Android TV app is so much faster and snappier than the Plex app and integrates much better with the Continue Watching bar. I've also got remote streaming working via Tailscale, and the performance is much better than Plex's remote access. It's also got some neat features that Plex doesn't have, like generating timeline pictures when you skip forward-backward, similar to what Netflix does. Couldn't see myself going back now even if they brought back the cheaper Plex Pass pricing

I am assuming there is something far too complicated for me that you with Plex or Jellyfin are using which 'automates' downloads new episodes, etc of whatever you are watching to local storage that then is available across your shared Plex/Jellyfin network?

Most people use “arr” apps (named because, you know, pirates) to automate their downloads. They do take a little time to set up but do their thing quite well.

Radarr for movies, Sonarr for TV, and Bazarr for subtitles. You have to have decent knowledge of torrents and/or newsgroups for them though

I'm a very mid capable computer guy haha. I was able to get it all set up following tutorials on reddit/youtube. Took me an evening to get everything going then a couple hours here and there tweaking things and getting it more automated.

Installed Jellyfin on my Synology, works well. A little buggy here and there and it only scans 2 directories deep, but it does a great job with subtitles and seems to play almost everything I can throw at it. Also really appreciate the compact layout. I think I've got it doing hardware transcoding as well.

Onn (Walmart) has a new streaming box available in US, which I think is fabulous. It's sort of midway between the 4k box ($20) and the 4k Pro ($50). It is 4k Plus and priced at $30
It has great bench scores and I like it so much more than the firestick 4k max. Lacking is only 2gb of ram (Pro has 3) but the 16gb storage makes it much more usable than the 8gb firestick come with.
Couple this box with a launcher like Projectivy and you have a really smooth, clean android TV experience. Even can play around with AI upscaling in Projectivy settings menu.

When will it be available in Canada, and for how much, who knows?

I'm going to skip this box and wait for the new Pro or bite the bullet and get a Homatics box.

Homatics looks really interesting, for a main TV type box. Had never heard of this one
