- Much faster load times, smoother, etc. All of that you would expect.
- Mario Kart World seems good after just a few races. Very much the Mario Kart feel. A bit chaotic with so many drivers, but that's part of the fun. I played the hell out of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and it has been a while, so having a sequel is nice. Being able to free roam and fart around a bit in between online races is a nice touch and more modern instead of waiting around staring at a bunch of Mii's on a globe.
- The upgraded Tears of the Kingdom (included for Online Expansion subscribers) is beautiful on a 4k TV. It is obviously sharper and smoother, but most noticeable (and helpful) is the HDR. I found TOTK sometimes tricky to see compared with BOTW because of they added a lot of cloud and haze, and of course the depths are very dark. Sure, you can increase your brightness a bit and fiddle with your TV settings, but you can see so much more with HDR.
- Using the cloud save game thing with Nintendo Online, your save data is the same and automatically syncs between standard TOTK on the Switch 1 and the upgraded version on the Switch 2. I figured it would be, but it was nice to confirm that.
- A minor annoyance is that the Switch 1 Pro Controller can't wake the Switch 2. Works perfectly fine otherwise, it just can't wake it. I read this before so it wasn't a surprise, but it is still a little bit of a hassle as I prefer that over the joy cons in the holder.
- My son (14) is a Zelda nerd, and he's probably most stoked about Wind Waker being available on the Game Cube thing.
My justification for taking the plunge was that it will be the same price now as it will in 6 months, a year, etc. And I knew that I'd be getting it at some point. So I might as well get it and enjoy it because it won't be getting cheaper for a few years, if ever.
That being said, it is still overpriced and I am having a little bit of guilt (but I'll get over it). The old Switch 1 probably won't get a tonne of use anymore, but I also don't feel like selling it. We are a 3-person household but aren't often fighting over the Switch, even though we've played it extensively and it owes us nothing.
Yah, usually for me, all the previous consoles start collecting dust, but I don't have much appetite to sell. I've been just kind of displaying it on shelves for my older consoles, while other ones (ie. the PS4), I've been using on my other rooms in case I want a Bluray player there. Really, because of backwards compatibility, I've not fired up my PS4 in a long time, and I suspect the Switch 1 will be the same. But like you said, those consoles gave me like 1000+ hours of enjoyment, so they owe me nothing.

The funny thing is, my kid loves the retro gaming stuff. He'd kill for an old NES, SNES, etc. even if it was mostly on display. But, alas, those old systems were deemed "old" and "unnecessary" once. Even my old Game Boy from back in the day. I can't even remember who I sold/gave that to, but he would love it now.

Do you have the NES/SNES mini's? Those things loaded with all the roms is how I get most of my retro gaming fixes nowadays.

Yeah - he's got one of the NES minis. It is very much "unofficial" but full of stuff, has old school controllers, etc. . Plus the Switch Online stuff, while not a true retro experience, is pretty good. I was even playing Super Mario Land from the Game Boy on there, and it feels pretty decent to be fair. It was never meant to be on such a big screen, but... does the job.
Well that was dumb.. trying to do the data transfer from my old Switch to the Switch 2.. and it wants to have an AC adapter connected to do it. Makes sense.
Except it won't accept ANY of my USB-C adapters/cables. They charge it fine, but neither Switch liked it for the purposes of the transfer. Where's my Switch 1 adapter and cable? No idea, maybe behind my TV somewhere, been a while since I've played it on TV.
I found if I just switched the Switch 2 adapter back and forth to whatever system was stuck on the "Connect AC Adapter" prompt and connected the other non-Nintendo one to the other system it eventually worked. Annoying.

I find the Switch and it's accessories to be the pickiest of all USB-C things I own. When it's time to charge the pro controllers, I usually have to try one of my half dozen USB-C cables and brick combos to find the one it'll actually work on.

Cool for those that keep their system docked most of the time there's a setting to stop charging at 90% battery, this usually helps keep the battery life healthy for a longer time.
Finally got to spend some time with it, and it's a nice system, everything I've tried plays fine and a lot smoother in some cases. Haven't tried Pokemon Violet yet but the videos I've seen are like night and day.
Not sure if I want to start a new playthrough of TotK since they've probably patched out the dupe bugs which saved me from some of the collection tedium
EDIT: Looks like there's still some item dupe bugs in TotK, one that's even better than the one I knew after the complex setup is done.
Mario Kart looks very nice.
Looking forward to this generation.

Just USB standard hellscape. You need a USB c cable that can also do higher power rates, though I think when not docked it's less picky. My new Nikon camera is super picky.
I am interested in the faster load times being mentioned. How much faster? This, and the joycons are my biggest gripes about the Switch.
Some more follow up. Pretty crazy spreadsheet people are updating with experiences about performance and load times. No specific time comparisons but seems like there is global improvements across the board.
System storage until it fills up. Storage always gets cheaper, I'll buy it when I need it.
TOTK Expansion pack looks great. Load times make a big difference in enjoyability, and I think ascend goes faster too. Haven't actually hit a chasm yet, but I suspect that's faster.
