Our oldest is on the spectrum, we sent him to A Proactive https://driveproactive.com/ since they were in the neighborhood. He passed his driving course and passed his test second try. He's been driving for years, even for work, and seems pretty decent. Aside from the speeding tickets...

But nothing specific to ASD, I guess we just got lucky that it suited him.

And there can be long wait times for test appointments.

Pretty sure this is because of Uncontrolled Intersections. People in other provinces don't get auto-failed on these

To clarify, the CBC article is referring to the learner's exam.

I would recommend anyone but my Dad. I'm over 50 and still break into a cold sweat when I think about my "driving" lessons. Drivers Ed in high school saved me.

Yuuup.

Mine would fly off the handle, complete Olympic medal spazzing. When I was about 14-15, he was going nuts on 12th Ave NE between Edmonton Tr. and Centre St. anytime an oncoming car passed. I got out of the vehicle, we switched seats, and I never even tried to drive again until about 20. My mom sent me to lessons.

My older bro went to Driver's Ed in high school as did my younger brother. I can't remember why I didn't, but I vaguely recall a teacher's strike or work to rule campaign that may have caused me to fall through the cracks.

Sometimes parents are just the worst teachers, they pass along all their own anxieties ten fold.
