You know how I know that Makarov has too good of a time every stampede?

This seems like a very reasonable development (that ultimately supports the Stampede too by providing hotel rooms for visitors).

I don’t disagree and I think they should be doing more like this. I just thought it was surprising that the CS would be driving this given how historically they’ve always seemed to avoid changing anything that impacts the experience on the grounds. The location seems odd to me given that to me the next natural step would be to level the big 4 and create a row of hotels along Macloed but that would really impact the feel of the grounds, not that I care either way as I try to avoid stampede for the most part.

This isn't your father's Stampede. They are immensely proud of the BMO Centre and Sam and the 17th Ave extension has already dramatically changed the grounds.

Once the saddledome is flattened, that's a lot of empty space for bad food and fixed games.

Rent in Chinook, in Saks? That must have been astronomical.

Also there's various massage parlours nearby, so it's a win win.

That hotel is going to be high ticket pro central.

I noticed a day care is taking over the old Black Swan pub.
That’s a choice

It's a little curved with some big windows in a couple places with a "Deerfoot casino" style front facing facade of boredom where most people will be looking at it from. I've seen a million renderings in Calgary alone like this one that people get excited about and it turns to absolutely nothing in terms of looks in our city.
It's simply a value engineered design where owners will make their money.

Just anything besides a boarded up bar for years and years is a huge win. Not fussed at all at what takes over, just something.

and it will still look half done when it's fully built. What an odd design.

Just curious about what you think is "value-engineered" about this design? Also, with a $330 million budget, I imagine the quality of materials will be very high.

From the exterior at least, Truman stuff going up lately looks good to my architecture uneducated mind. I'm hoping this hotel will turn out similar.

I understand the frustration, but most of CMLC's projects usually gets built fairly closely to what they present publicly. I suppose I'm more pragmatic than you in this regard; I feel the end result will be fairly close to what you see here.
'Deerfoot Casino' made me laugh too, thanks haha.

I can’t imagine they’ll get the smell out of the place unless they do a complete tear-down.
The 1600 at Glenmore Landing is also being replaced with a daycare. The patio will be missed.

Does anyone know if there is currently any plans to re-open the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame at COP? They did a fantastic job with the renovations I wanted to take my kids there but it's been closed since Covid.
