We do love when an American franchise comes here, don't we? Those lines on 16th ave when Carl's Jr took over the Arby's on 16th was crazy. The Carl's Jr on 32nd in the NE has now turned into a Chipotle.

Hotel directly next to an "event" center and Convention center seems pretty darn perfect.

Yep. I'm surprised it took this long to get a decent hotel in this area too. 17th Ave, in general, is oddly devoid of hotels (and performance venues) directly on a stretch of commercial activity that several of these facilities should logically be directly on. This new hotel is likely going to be incredibly popular year-round for convention centre activity, Stampede, the summer season and hockey events.
Fun fact - there's another future hotel planned for the other side of the convention centre in that parkade behind the BMO Centre.

Should have happened after the flood, but they build that place like a bomb shelter...

Yeah the proportions from the pictures is messing with my brain. It’s kind of cool though.

Shadow would be cast mostly over the Big 4.

Fair enough.
Just thought the CS wouldn’t want to mess around too much with the ambiance of the grounds, and while the shade might be nice on those plus 30 days it’s really not as welcome on the low 20 days. Where this hotel will be kinda takes away the view of downtown from the grounds too.
In my opinion it would have made more sense to set up a few really big hotels where the dome currently sits after its demolition but I can see why they wouldn’t have wanted to wait that long. Could still be their plan too.

The spot where the Stampede Board has their headquarters would be an ideal spot for the hotel. Between the convention center and the new arena.

Personally, I'm pretty tired of the whole "ten-days-in-June dictates how 200 acres of prime inner-city property is developed and used" thing. This seems like a very reasonable development (that ultimately supports the Stampede too by providing hotel rooms for visitors).

Additionally, the BMO Centre is quite large and doesn't overshadow this hotel in comparison.

It's a great development. It's basically dead space for 355 days of the year otherwise, it's right next to the c-train station, and having gone to trade shows as an exhibitor, being right next to the actual space is a life saver.
Also there's various massage parlours nearby, so it's a win win.
