Simply captivating. Never seen anything like that in a movie.

Yeah three weeks or so after seeing that movie and that scene still sticks with me. It is an all timer.

Sinners was awesome. Best sound I've heard in a film in a while.

Watched Mountainhead from writer of Succession.
Not a bad cast including Steve Carrell who I like.
Interesting concept with everything going on in tech and politically but script was terribly weak.
Would not recommend.

Today would have been Marilyn Monroe's 99th birthday. The most famous actress of all time, would star in such classics like Niagra, Some Like it Hot, Seven Year Itch (her most famous pose is in this film), Gentleman Prefer Blondes, Bus Stop, How to Marry a Millionaire and so many more. There is also a local connection, as she famously stayed at the Banff Springs Hotel with Joe Dimmagio, while filming the movie River of No Return. Such a cool piece of local history I wonder what she thought of the national park and if she ever made it out to Calgary.

As far as I know the grass strip in Banff didn't accept a DC-7
Seriously, of course she was in Calgary, this is her arriving.
Edit: Not sure if she's even the most famous actress of all time either, probably the most famous bimbo but I would think Katharine Hepburn was more famous as an actress.

From what I understand she was a smart business person and understood managing her image, as artists like Lady Gaga do today. I'm not sure "bimbo" is a word that can be fairly applied to her.

Well, it's not like there aren't dozens of pictures of her in Banff that one could look at or anything.

It's fantastic and the effects hold up well. Always wanted a sequel. However, based on Elysium and Chappie, the sequel likely wouldn't have been that good.

Yeah, it was really good and ####ed up!
Belongs in the discussion with Hereditary, Midsommar, and Get Out when it comes to modern masterpieces.

Agreed. I didn't even have to think about it, knew right away it was the best I've seen this year.
The reviews made it sound like a step down from Talk to Me, but I think they channeled everything they did right in that film into this one.
My friend and I both noted that it was the first time in years we had to turn away for scenes.
I like that the kids characters were fleshed out in this. So many horror movies make their children characters insufferable both from acting and writing standpoints and reduce them to plot devices that come off less than human. Not here.
You really invest in the brother sister pairing as step siblings that were deeply traumatized in their previous home with a close bond.
The character motivations were realistic, even the ones that were repugnant. And people reacted to things how one might expected them to for the most part, which was both shocking and refreshing.
Just... damn. Chef's kiss for a horror!

How do the child actors deal with the being in some of these movies? I know it's just a movie and a story, but that stuff sits with you.
Full disclosure - I do not watch Horror movies much at all. I'll watch Black Mirror and such, but none of these super unsettling movies you nutters enjoy!

Sinners really was good. Lived up to the hype, I went in fully cold outside of knowing Michael B Jordan was in it. Definitely going to give it a rewatch

I think so. I'd call it horror adjacent at best.

I recollect that Elizabeth Taylor was the biggest actress of that era.

It's essentially some combination of a horror, drama, musical and gang film.

One kid in BHB in particular is put through the ####ing ringer in terms of gross out scenes and body horror.
I'm sure (or I hope) there is plenty of humor and non-seriousness in between takes to keep the fictional aspect of it in perspective.

The actor apparently loved it. I saw quotes regarding a couple of the gruesome special effect scenes he was in, and he was begging for more fake blood with the knife, and they used chocolate for the scene with the wood table and he was apparently having a blast.
