So what kind of “offers” do these big NCAA schools have in their back pocket to try and pry kids out of the CHL.

Outside of the accolade of saying you graduated from it if you finish your years of course.
Financial? Sponsorships?

The fact that the WHL is widely held that it is a terrible for development in comparison.

Free education is a big factor.

NCAA players can now sign sponsorship deals, but I doubt any hockey players are getting much out of those deals.

Beyond those, I suspect the next biggest draw is the quality of competition and the chance to develop against older, stronger opponents than you'd get in the CHL. The CHL rules allow teams to have a maximum of 2 Europeans and 3 20-year-olds on their rosters. The NCAA has no such limits, and very few players under 20 are playing significant minutes in the NCAA unless they are top prospects.

If you're a bubble prospect, you're going to develop better playing against a bunch of stronger, older opponents, even if it's harder competition, than you will by dominating a bunch of growing teenagers. That difference will become even more pronounced if virtually every decent 18/19 year-old prospect starts making the jump.

Another factor is that it can extend the development runway for a bubble prospect. Every year, we see 23 and 24 year-old players signing NHL contracts out of the NCAA who weren't even if the conversation 4 or 5 years earlier when they were draft eligible. Meanwhile, a lot of junior players who were drafted 4 or 5 years ago are already forgotten after struggling in the ECHL and/or AHL for a few seasons.

You should have kept your original post, I thought you made a couple of good points that I had missed about the NCAA playing a lighter schedule and also having top-level training facilities.

With regards to the schedule, the NCAA plays about half the games the CHL does and almost all are on Fridays and Saturdays. This season, the University of Denver played 44 total games, which was the most in the NCAA. Today, the Memorial Cup Final is Medicine Hat's 90th game of the season (and it would be even more if they hadn't only lost 2 games in the entire WHL playoffs).

Depending on which college a player chooses, there may not be much travel required at all. Almost all of the Hockey East colleges are within a 2 hour drive of Boston. Those players a likely spending less than 10 nights a season in a hotel room.

These schools can offer very generous NIL deals now. Apparently $250k available for Martone. More schools are tapping donors to set up NIL collectives (wealthy alumni; check out Duke basketball's....$8mm?!)

What does WHL pay?

I honestly don’t know why a player would pick the CHL over the NCAA if given the choice. Free education and legitimate money in your pocket seems pretty good.

Closer to home might be the only reason

I know a smaller player who went the NCAA route because of things already listed, but also to bulk up. Less games meant he had more time to workout and train in a world class facility.

Talk to anyone? The dub is going to need to increase the value proposition. The vast majority of teams are not greatly run and other than playing a crap tonne of games it’s worse in pretty much every way. It’s almost become a junior feeder league to ncaa. It will get younger. Players like Smitty or Yak are not being served by another year there. Same as Parekh. Talent level disparity is so much greater in the dub. And injury risk as part of that. Big dumb idiots aplenty. Most nhl teams are pro ncaa but a couple dinosaurs.

I toured michigans facilities a few years ago with berenson. Unbelievable. Flames are an embarrassment compared. It’s like hockey Mecca compared to Prince Albert.

About right, and I would say Misa is a better skating Tavares. I think the Isle take him which will leave San Jose's 1-2 punch with Schaefer and Dickinson on the blueline a force for the next decade.

If that is correct, and it may well be, the Islanders should try and trade down with SJ. SJ covets Schaefer and should be prepared to pay something.

Now SJ may be prepared to bet the Islanders are bluffing and want Misa, bit it's been rumoured they want Hagens also, so SJ may be concerned another team may move up. The SJ/Schaefer match is likely the strongest of the initial 5-6 picks.
