It's almost like ignoring the same problems for decades hasn't really worked out well for anyone. I'm sure this one is the NDP's fault, though.

It was probably the light bulbs that did it.

Wonder how many of them also believe they would be able to keep Canadian currency, pension, citizenship and passport?

It's frankly incredibly depressing to live in a province with this many stupid people and know they control our future.

Speaking of stupid...

Quote:
Investment in Alberta’s renewables sector has dropped off significantly owing to unprecedented policy and regulatory uncertainty, with the number of wind and solar projects in the province’s connection queue shrinking for the first time, a new report has found.

According to the report released Wednesday by the Pembina Institute, a think tank, Alberta’s renewables sector has gone from leading the country to cancelled projects and lost investment. That has put the province at odds with global trends and other Canadian jurisdictions, which continue to gain momentum.

According to the International Energy Agency, for example, two-thirds of global energy investment in 2024 went toward clean energy, rather than fossil fuel projects.

According to this government, it's the feds who put unnecessary regulations on Alberta that kneecap our industries. Meanwhile, our dumb ####ing #### of a premiere is happy enough to punch us in our face because she's terrified of the colour green.

Carney’s government needs to smack this down right away by raising the Clarity Act in parliament and making it clear that it would apply to any move by Alberta to separate.

Well, the only thing Canada could really control there is the passport. You can't stop a country from using your currency, and that's not up to you. The pensions through CPP that have accrued and are owed to Canadians today are still payable to them if they move to other countries, so ostensibly that wouldn't change. Albertans couldn't continue to contribute, and you're not getting OAS in that event, though.

It’s interesting because unilaterally using Canadian currency would seem to undercut many of the benefits of separatization. You maintain the stability, sure, but you give up control of your economy while damaging the economy you’re suddenly entirely reliant on. I wonder how many mistake this drawback as a benefit.

Start a massive collection of bottles and cans and ride the arbitrage wave if we get absorbed by the US.

If Alberta were to separate, wouldn't switching to US currency make more sense than CAD?

Bedevilled by scandal and measles, UCP tries to gin up a moral panic about racy picture books in school libraries
I get your point and yeah, seems like moral panic more than anything, however the excerpts they provided were a little more than racy. That’s downplaying the actual images quite severely. Unless of course you think pictures of a teenager masturbating to a pornographic film made by his father is just a smidge risqué.

With that said, this “issue” seems wildly blown out of proportion and I have my doubts it’s a real issue, and it’s certainly not an issue if parents are actively involved in their kids education. I know I’ll be looking over my sons books when he’s that age so this isn’t a problem in my household.

I hope these losers have to pull out their new passport everytime they go to Banff or Jasper.

Just a passport? No, a tourist visa.

Yeah, it's another addition to the long list of stupid ideas being floated, though. Why you would want to separate but cede economic control (which is the pretense for separation in the first place!) is beyond me. But really, I'm not their target audience because the entire thing is a non-starter.

Today, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), along with three Alberta doctors, will file a constitutional challenge to Alberta’s Bill 26Opens in a new window, to protect the relationship between patients, their families and doctors when it comes to making treatment decisions.

Bill 26 directs physicians on how to deliver gender-affirming care to people under 18, down to which medications they can use, when and how. This is an historic and unprecedented government intrusion into the physician-patient relationship and requires doctors to follow the law rather than clinical guidelines, the needs of patients and their own conscience.

“Medicine is a calling. Doctors pursue it because they are compelled to care for and promote the well-being of patients,” says CMA President Dr. Joss Reimer. “When a government bans specific treatments, it interferes with a doctor’s ability to empower patients to choose the best care possible.”
https://www.cma.ca/about-us/what-we-...s-make-medical

Silly CMA, it's the politicians who decide what we are permitted to do with our own bodies. It's what the UCP calls "freedom" and it's the only thing that matters to Albertans. Now #### off back to Laurentia. We have some measles we'd like to wallow in, as is our right to do so.

Didn't Quebec think the exact same things when they held their separation referendum?

I haven't read much about it, but are any of these books actually in schools, or are they simply on the approved list. It seems a little sus that a list of books in American libraries are also physically in the libraries, here. Is this an actual thing, or are people getting worked up over the potential?

It's going to be wild when I am required to have a passport to visit my family in Alberta.
