I don't care if he's not a priority need for the Flames right now.
If Peterka is actually on the market, Conroy should be in on it.

If i'm dealing Zary for Byram, i'm only offering 1 for 1, and even then I'm pausing.

Byram is tricky for a few reasons as he does fit organizational needs from a positional and age perspective but there are risks at play
1. He wants more opportunity on the PP which i am not sure he will get here long term with Parekh in the fold
2. His injury history matters even if he has had a somewhat clean bill of health that last two years
3. For a guy wanting more opportunity - he has shown zero ability to carry his own pairing. His splits with and without Dahlin are night and day and speak to a player that isn't and may never be ready to handle more responsibility defensively.
4. He want's a long term deal at a high number - despite again not proving a whole lot at this level.
I'd offer something like Sharangovich and FLA 1st.

He's an RFA and apparently is tired of circus there.

When you build a contending team, Centers and Defense are the most important positions. Bo Byram played on the top d unit with Dahlin and matched up against the other team's top lines. He also outscored Zary with just 1 min if PP time per game and 3rd on the Sabres depth chart for D on the PP.
If we can add Byram for Zary+....you do it. We got lots of wingers.
Rasmus and Zary for Byram, you do it.

Rasmus and Zary should be getting you in the conversation for a proven player that has a higher ceiling not a guy looking for an opportunity.

I prefer keeping Zary, signing Orlov for 2–3 years, and trading Andersson for some 26' lottery tickets, but that's me.
I also doubt they would prefer to extend Andersson instead of Byram.

23 years old dman. Sure, Dahlin carried him, but he was out against the best players in the league nightly. He's not asking for Dahlin money, and he has tons of potential still. What do Flames fans think we have in Zary? I love the kid but what is the expectation? Seems like way too many think he is way better than he is.
Rasmus Anderson gets schooled by elite player nightly too. I would love to add picks for him, but the Flames need top end upside not late 1sts.
Conroy needs to hit on a late bloomer like this over late 1st round wingers.
If Conroy can use Rasmus to move up this draft and land a top 10 pick or get an unprotected 1st in 26 or 27, fine go that direction. If not, Byram in with our d core would be a very nice add.

I would do Rasmus+Zary+ Florida 1st for Peterka and Byram...
But I would also probably do the same trade if you swapped Peterka for the 9OA.

I agree on the lottery picks, assuming the other GM is willing to trade an unprotected 1st for Rasmus. If Conroy gets that offer go for it, but what if he doesn't? I'd take a chance on Byram over a late 1st.

What kind of offer would it take to pry both Byram and Peterka from Buffalo? It might not be realistic or wise—but it's fun to speculate.

Any trade involving a player with trade protection to Buffalo is likely unrealistic anyways. No one is waiving for Buffalo unless they are desperate.

Jeez, Peterka would be an amazing acquisition. He’s got unbelievable energy and motor, and plays with fire in his belly. Skilled player with a solid two-way game.

If I were just choosing between Byram and a late 1st, of course I would choose Byram. Would I trade Zary + FLA 25' 1st for Byram? Probably. That said, I think that Byram's ceiling is probably around a Hanifin, which would leave Flames as a pretty mid-team throughout his next contract.
How do you project Byram?

No you don't.
Andersson is worth maybe 1st + 2nd. Zary is certainly worth a 1st.
That's 2 1sts + 2nd for a guy who two teams have given up on, seems selfish, and would instantly become our highest paid defenseman, without playing a game. He isn't as good as Andersson (though yes, he is younger), and you want to throw in Zary?
No.

I would do Rasmus + Zary for Byram and Peterka.
But I doubt Rasmus signs with the Sabres, so it wouldn't happen.
