What are you talking about? It's been weeks since we've had a day where you could bake in the sun. Exaggerate much?

Yeah, it is a bit odd. There’s a reason people typically vacation and spend their retirement in warm places. I get not wanting to roast in 35 C weather. But preferring 15 to 25 is strange. Sitting on a patio in shorts and t-shirt at 9 pm is usually regarded as a very pleasant thing.
I’m assuming the people who dislike temps in the 20s are the types who run hot and wear shorts outside when it’s 7 C.

Great.
30C when I have to mow my lawn? No thank you.

You know you can mow your lawn (or go for a bike ride, etc) before temps reach 30, right?
What makes a day that reaches 27 as a high nice is that it’s a really pleasant 18–25 for several hours early in the day, and then again for several hours in the evening. But on a day with a high of 17, it’s going to be uncomfortably chilly for doing outdoor activities like riding a bike or sitting on a deck in shorts before 11 and after 5 pm. I’d rather have two windows of pleasant shorts-weather early and late in the day, than one smaller window in the mid-day.

Cliff, you are so close to recognizing people have different body reactions to temperatures and thus may prefer different ranges. Keep going in that direction, vs trying to convince people what you prefer is perfect for everyone.

Not at all. Just pointing out that even if your ideal temp is 18-20, you’re going to get more hours of that temp on a day that hits a high of 25 than you will on a day with a high of 19.
And not liking temps above 20 is unusual. All the power to people who feel that way, but they’re in the minority. Not sure why we’re even talking about 30+.

I'm sorry my posts on an internet forum have such and adverse affect on you and the climate.

I agree, 15-20 degrees is perfect to work or work out in.

Having installed central AC this year I'm learning though that it doesn't do quite what I thought it did - basically, it doesn't operate at all until temps get above 25. It's measuring temperature on the main floor, which in any well-insulated home will be cooler than outside for most of the day. It doesn't run at all when outside temps are low-ish (I forget what the cutoff is but it's something like 10 degrees) and because there's a precipitous drop in temps overnight here, it isn't going to run then. And they specifically advise you not to set the thing below 20 degrees, and better if you have it at about 22, for longevity.
All of this is to say that really, is that A/C is only truly useful for very hot days, where it's like 25+ at 11am or highs well into the 30s, at which point it makes your home comfortable. It doesn't transform your home into a consistent-temperature climate controlled environment most of the time. I doubt it'll do much of anything next week, for example.
Since this is my first year though I guess I'll see how I feel about it after we've had an actual heat wave.

Does your system have a fan only mode? I'd be running that to move the hot air down, which may also trigger the A/C. If the air is just completely stagnant then ya, it's gonna get hot up top. If you have an air exchanger you can also run that to move air around more.

Best thing I did was ecobee sensors everywhere and then set temperature throughout the day according to which sensors I want to include.
Wake up and sleep: upstairs room sensors
During the day: main room sensor
And then I have it ignore my main ecobee entirely because it's in a bad hallway spot that's always too cold or too hot.

It does, but even with that system running it'll always be a couple degrees cooler with each floor you go down. One thing I have to look into is whether I can stop flow in my basement in the summer so that any cool air doesn't make it to those vents, that will probably make a difference in efficiency once the system is running. But no matter what, it isn't going to turn on until that main floor gets above 22, and that's not going to happen until it's been a fair bit warmer than that outside for a few hours.
This isn't even necessarily a bad thing; I was worried my enmax bill was going to go up significantly and actually I don't think it'll end up making that huge a difference, because it's sitting idle most of the time. I guess we'll see.
