He could be a Backlund replacement. He's pretty good on the PK and scored 3 short handed goals this season. I wouldn't be opposed to trading for him but Andersson will have a say in where he's traded and I'm not sure he would approve a deal to Ottawa or some of the other teams being bandied about.

CBJ still makes sense as a target with Sillinger+ coming back.
The plus could be a 1st or a prospect like Brindley.
The challenge is perhaps they have a lot of D in the pipeline, but I'm not sure how many of them are actually ready outside of Mateychuk.

Any time you can hire a coach with a career .447 head coaching record you have to jump at it.

I guess they are hoping he's better in his second go-around and Cooper rubbed off on him. Not exactly an inspiring hire given the Hawks are hitting that point where they need to start improving which is what he couldn't accomplish with the Wings.

I suppose you're right, I don't think they actually can win, so best they can do is pick 3rd.
"A team cannot win the lottery more than twice in a five-year span (starting from 2022)"
Chicago won the lottery in 2023 to move from 3rd to 1st & picked Bedard.
Chicago also won (?) to retain their 2nd OA pick in 2024 & picked Levshunov.
So presuming that 2024 one counts even though they didn't move up, they can't win again for a few years.

Blackhawks' fall from grace means they take the least worst from the B list that will say yes.

I believe it only counts if you move up... which is so dumb

They have only won once. They are eligible to win.

His winning percentage was by coaching a below average team.
So, I'm not sure that's a proper stat to base his skill on.
The Hawkes need a guy who is good at coaching young players.
I have no idea if he is that guy.

The hire doesn't exactly signal that the team is on the upswing...
Celebrini will be competing for the playoffs much sooner than the Hawks IMO.

I agree, and it will be interesting to see the 2 teams compared over the course of their respective rebuilds, it certainly looks like SJ is trending better at the moment but both teams are truly awful right now.
Celebrini, less hyped than Bedard, surpassed not just his rookie season but his second season as well, IMO and while both were heavy minus players, Celebrini looks like a true #1 Center in the making and Bedard is starting to look like a player that cant handle that position, and cant even win a faceoff.
Im curious to see if Bedard's game changes at all under a new coach, though like you this hire doesnt inspire much.

Would anyone trade 18th overall + 32nd overall for Rossi?
Is that too much? Is it enough?

I'd give up the 32nd (and maybe even add a medium prospect), but not the #18 - let's draft and develop fresh talent with that pick.
