Pretty sure people were saying Dallas was outplayed overall in both the Avs and Jets series, yet prevailed on the scoreboard in more games in both cases.
They're a team that is good at converting on their chances. We're so used to watching the Flames have to dominate and throw 20 pucks at a goalie to bag a goal.
Dallas has the talent to rest on their laurels for stretches of games, because they have that ability to turn it on at key moments. And that's why they're in the WCF.
Maybe it's time that their detractors adjust their expectations around them accordingly, instead of continuing to 'tell us' that at any moment they're going to fold because their underlying stats have said so all playoffs. Evidently it's not happening, bruv.
Oilers are a better advanced stats team these days, but for the bulk of McDavid's tenure they played games exactly like the stars. Opportunistic with talent that can finish, particularly on the PP. And that approach works when you have the goalie to support it.

I hadn't taken into account how bad Skinner is... I mean I knew he was bad, but his ineptitude was far beyond what I expected.
So yeah, my bad for thinking he had returned to some level of respectability.
Stars still in trouble though if the Oilers get average goaltending. Either Pickard or their other goalie. Hard to see either option being worse than what they have now.
|
But the way I look at it is that if the Stars play like the third, average goaltending won't be enough for the Pigs, and if the Stars play like the third, any goaltender will look like average goaltending.

I watched a sopranos episode during the 3rd. Stars feasted on the PP and some bad goals.
They need a lot lot more than 28 shots on net and showing up for 1 period. Get your #### together.

lol this guy, take an L for once. You were calling for the firing of a coach that has been to 6 of the last 7 Western finals because his team was down 3-1 in a game. Funny how you are always available to say I told you so but get busy just as soon as its looking like you might be wrong.

I was at the rink here in Regina watching my kid play. They had the game in the lobby. My kid's game started it was 3-1 losers. Said screw it, gonna watch my kid's game.
Side bar: Regina is weird. You'd think they'd be more Flames or Jets fans. But nope. Tons of Loser fans instead. They can't reconcile being a Flames fan, as they think it means being a Stamps fan. I get asked often if I'm a Stamps fan since I'm from Calgary. No. Then they perk up and say well, you must be a Rider fan, and by default, an Oilers fan because I'm not a Stamps fan. No again, and then I laugh and say I'm just not a fan of a sh!-tty sport.
But I digress
My kid's game ends, I walk out and see 4-3. In front of probably 20 parents who are all clearly Oilers fans, I laugh and say really loud to my wife "Holy crap, the good guys took the lead!". The number of dirty looks I got, pure joy to my soul.

The Stars were dominated for 2 periods and were about equal in the 3rd. Skinner wasn't making any saves.

Do you have old pictures saved or do you get the satisfaction of knocking one down each time?

That would be alarming considering how much they post.
Both accounts were absent at the same time though, it checks out. Or maybe they were watching the sopranos together..

The Greasy Twins only played 20 minutes?
That's probably why they lost.

Barely. He has an .888 save percentage in these playoffs which is still pretty awful. And if it weren’t for the Oilers philosophy of always fielding the worst goaltending tandem you can imagine, he’d be playing in the AHL or Europe right now. Prior to joining Edm, he played 30 NHL games over 6 seasons. Dude was on his was out of the league.

That’s now the 3rd time these playoffs a segment of posters declared a series over after a team had a 2 goal lead in one game, only for the lead to be quickly blown.
McDavid and Draisaitl with a combined 5 points and a -2. How is that even possible?
