Much like his son, he had a high approval rating with younger, progressive voters early on in his career. Towards the end of his term, it dropped. That’s obviously not uncommon. But his legacy isn’t highly renowned; more so polarizing. And it wasn’t just small pockets of Alberta and Saskatchewan, it was the large majority. Again, not uncommon for farmers and ranchers to be anti progress. Not to mention the alienation of western Canada, as a whole.
I believe he rose to prominence by sheer luck and his ability to look good on camera. It was the tail end of the 60s and the middle of the civil rights movement and those god damn hippies!!
