Plus he was playing with Panarin iirc. Do the Flames have a Panarin?

I don't blame him for Huby ####ting the bed for two seasons before finding his game. That's on Jonathan. Plus we got Weegar and a pick, which is awesome. I was dazzled with the trade at the time, but freaked out at the contracts right after which as I recall were not really necessary so soon after the trade.
GMBT can be a bad GM while making a few good trades. The two are not mutually exclusive.
Looking at his body of work, he is a one step forward two steps back guy that values scrubs with intangibles over draft picks. So far, that approach has won his teams almost nothing in the regular season (a couple of division titles?) and nothing in the post season (3-4 rounds in total?). All the while detonating his team's future.
So yeah, GMBT = NG

Pure speculation on my part but I think Marner will sign a Mammoth deal.

Marner seems like such a vanilla, white bread kind of guy; SLC would fit him like a glove.

If I were Marner I'd be watching Celebrini playing with Crosby at the World Championships and be thinking San Jose could be a pretty attractive destination. Also just a complete 180 in scenery as far as the market goes.

Watching Marner there the last few minutes and skating around after the game was watching a guy realize his childhood dream ended. You could see it all over his face. Looked at his chest, up at all the rafters… I feel for him, but he will be better off not playing in his hometown.

Given that Florida pick has now turned into almost a 2nd rounder, I’d really like to see an Andersson trade into the top 15. Does anyone think the Ranger at 12 would be a good target?
I’m just thinking of destinations that he might re sign

He was! Many thought he was Gandalf but he turned out to be Sarumon.

I don’t think the Rangers are a fit. They probably want to see how Schneider does behind Fox.

Marner unlikely back in Toronto.
I’d wager they have more interest in Bennett at 7m than Marner at 12.5+
Flames second first rounder now with terrible value for moving up, ‘tis a shame Toronto was so horrible this series, losing their goalie didn’t help.
I too feel like Calgary have to use Andersson to get a better pick, I too wonder if they look to make other moves as well. We have a logjam in the top 9 without young guys clearly ready.

I have no idea what the Rangers’ cap situation is like, but they need a lot of help on the blue line. Andersson absolutely fits the bill.

Yes and no in regards to a long way out, we've actually seen up to 30 picks from that draft moved already with eight of them being potentially in the 1st round (conditions). Contending teams come and go and are established in the actual season.
In typical Brad Treliving fashion all of his upcoming 1st round picks are in play. The Leafs are contenders now but two years from now? Who knows how valuable that pick could be. But I see what you're saying

Some think the Rangers might opt to let this pick go to Pittsburgh rather than risk leaving a McKenna pick unprotected. I don't think they hired Sullivan for a rebuild. But one injury to Shesterkin and it would sink them.
So if that pick isn't in the Pens hands tkll next year they might be willing to move back to get some more prospects in the stable if they're willing to start rebuilding.

I defended Treliving but as they pelled back how he operated you can understand the hate. He was good at player for player trades and RFA contracts but he would go out and ruin anything good he did with horrific UFA moves, moving entire draft classes for junk like Jarnkrok and zero idea on coaches.

Flames are/will be getting to a point where they will have to package younger promising players due to icetime.
Zary could soon be the off man out.

I don't see why Zary would be the odd man out. He'd have been right there with Coronato all year if not for injury. Did we forget he was the hottest player on the team for a stretch this year before his first injury?
I'd wager Zary is a part of the management teams long term plans. Just have to get over the injury hurdle. Backs was the same way his first few years and look how that panned out.
Patience fanbase, patience.

This. And if they put him back at centre (where he looked really good before the first injury), it opens a winger opportunity and continues to develop Zary as a centre like he has been through junior and the AHL. Next year, go with Kadri-Zary-Frost-Backlund as the centres.

As for Trelivings long term effect on the Flames.
His mistakes outweighed the positives. The three most damning moves he made? harmonic acquisition, Monahan trade (Even including the signing of Kadri) because of losing a good 1st to clear 6.75m of cap, the Brouwer signing.
I can excuse all his goaltending acquisitions as anything was better than the previous ones they tried. And Markstrom was a net positive overall.
