Yeah as bleak as it feels, if they win this game they have a game 7 on home ice. It's the Leafs of course so I can see why there's a lot of negativity but it's not over until it's over.

This core for the Leafs are 0/7 in Game 7s (counting the best of 5 against Columbus). 9 consecutive seasons making the playoffs and 7 times going to game 7 and losing. They ain't changing. This is them.

Does Matthews struggle because Marner is on his line?

There seems to be the big difference in GAF but results are the same.

Can Patch keep up? Maybe he'd be better there. Shelter Marner somewhere else.

Pure speculation but my bet is Mathews is battling injury and Marner is unable to handle the intensity of playoffs so loses confidence and crumbles.

The only battle Matthew's has is between his ears....he is his own worse enemy

I am guessing both TOR, COL and WSH wish the Rantanen for Marner trade happened.

Are folks in TO starting to use that alleged scuttled trade against Marner? By August i'm thinking he'll want to be anywhere but Ontario and will really regret not waiving (if that is indeed what happened).

Matthews has been off all season, so clearly there is some sort of issue there.

As for "they're not out yet," no, they're not, but it's been the performance in the last 2 games that has Leaf fans throwing in the towel, presumably.

Marner would have done well in Carolina IMO

Issue in Toronto is the mix more than an individual player.

Nylander, Marner, Matthews, Tavares...all too similar in terms that none of them are really gritty players that can help make room for the talent come playoff time.

The best comparison to me is how people called Florida's forward group including Barkov and Reinhart soft...but you switch out Huberdeau for Tkachuk and all of a sudden the entire group has a bit of an identity change.

Looks like the Leafs are scratching Robertson (their lone goal scorer last game and one of the few players in the bottom 6 who have a goal this playoff) and Kampf. Jarnkrok (1 goal in 29 games in season and playoffs) and Holmberg (7 goals in the season, 0 in the playoffs) are back in.

Why does Treliving have such a hard on for Jarnkrok? He was disappointing in Calgary and disappointing in Toronto.

Yet he loves the player.

He occupies the same reality that all the people who were completely convinced Jarnkrok would replace Backlund in full did. Except somehow he's still there, and didn't shift to this reality when he actually saw Jarnkrok and Backlund on the same team.

They completely overhauled the system in Florida that doesn’t get enough attention.

Maurice installed a more heavy forecheck possession heavy style. Much different from the run and fun team they had that blitzed you in open ice with speed and numbers. Now it’s cutting the rink down and playing for 7 games but the opposition doesn’t have much left in the tank.

The style will wear out soon as it’s a difficult style to keep up

To be fair, Jarnkrok had a career year his first year in Toronto. His play has been falling since though, and in that first playoff, 1 goal and 2 assists in 11 games. Last playoffs, scoreless in seven. This playoffs, 1 assist in 10.

So 1 goal, 3 assists, in 28 playoff games in Toronto.
