There are many other banned substances than just HGH or Steroids but that can "positively" affect performance. For example, Neifi Perez of the Tigers:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neifi_Perez
On July 6, 2007, Neifi Pérez was suspended 25 games by MLB for a second positive test for a banned stimulant.

He's a light hitting guy, so not a typical user...

Steroids aren't just for pure power. Reading through Jose Canseco's book gives you a good look at what they actually do. Steroids basically turned him into someone with below average speed to above average speed.

The main advantage to steroids I'd say would be the ability to play 162 games a year at 100% every game (which would still have a huge effect on home run numbers).

looks like that this will happen

the blue jays have had horrible luck with injuries this year and this is not going to help at all going into the second half. hopefully that he can get healthy quickly and get back in the line up and keep up his early production.

it doesn't look like this is gonna happen as he is playing tonight against the red sox.

The real question is when did steroids begin appearing in baseball. For all we know the 70's could have had steroid use as well... We will never know.

another below average night for Halladay. Although Wakefield does seem to have Toronto's number.

wakefield is a freaking bluejay killer. dang. not the best way to start off the second half vs. the division leaders. oh well, it's a four game series.

For sure it was the 70's. When did they invent steroids? I'd bet they found there way into sports two days later.

'76 Olympics are well know to have been riddled with steroids, especially from the East German team.

Anybody else kind of choked about being forced to watch the Dodgers play the Giants on SNHD so that they can join the Jays game in progress? I sure am.

that call today was based purely upon routine. the throw beat him there, it was caught, thus he was out...problem is that the glove/ball never got within a foot of glaus. gotta watch the whole play, don't make a all based upon what usually happens.

Why did they even do that? The game was being broadcast on FOX too, so it wasn't as if they would have pissed off anyone by not showing the rest of that game on SNET.

that's what I was thinking. The ump made up his mind on that call when he saw how much the throw beat Glaus by.

It's amazing how close the fans are in right field at Fenway. Cool stuff.

Over the last few weeks they've been heavily promoting themselves as the place to watch Bonds make history. I guess they don't want to miss it. Pretty brutal stuff from a station that markets itself as 'your home for the Jays'.
