Barzal has had some injury issues, but is historically close to a point per game player, 27 year old right shot center, western Canadian kid, contract locked up till 29-30.
He may not be 'perfect' but if he is available, you have to at least inquire to see what the acquisition cost is.

That place is also a statistical black hole with how they play.
I'd be interested to see what Barzal is with a change of scenery.

Can't wait to see what Conroy does this offseason.

I think Barzal is a #1C in the league, just not an elite one. I think he needs a change of scenery to hit his potential.

Barzal would be a great add. Staple Coronato or Sharangovich by his side and let the magic happen.

Barzal - Pettersson as a base is somewhat interesting

Barzal is a better center than any we have. IMO with Kadri that's a fair 1-2 shot. Probably the best name we could hope for tbh.
I would still focused on trying to wrangle wright out of seattle too.

Scoring Winger

IIRC Barzal was primarily playing on the wing on the Islanders

I have always thought Barzal was over-rated around here, but I could get on board signing him - much better plan than Marner, and would be way cheaper. Barzal is a weak #1 C, but he is a #1 C. And the Flames would then have some solid depth at the position:
Barzal
Kadri
Backlund
Frost
is a pretty strong group

Barzal is not a signing option. He has 6 years left at 9.15M

Taking a while to get to 5000

I get the Marner talk, he's a UFA, but why are the Isles moving on from Barzal?
Edit - Yeah, see above

Barzal's in year 2 of an 8yr $9.15mil deal.
He's always seemed to be in an odd place on the Isles depth chart, getting bumped around the lines, also probably due to a number of injuries (including missing 50+ games this year).
I dunno, I think I'd rather just target some younger players who maybe need a change of scenery & would be cheaper to acquire so we're also still drafting & developing prospects instead of trading them away.
There's also a chance the new Isles management group's mindset is Barzal's the #1C & untouchable, so this could all be a moot discussion.

Then why are people even talking about him?
Straight up for Andersson would be an intriguing trade

Barzal/Kadri is actually a solid 1/2 punch. The biggest selling point is that both are able to generate their own offence. This is what the Flames have always lacked. Whenever they got to a playoff series, other teams seemed to be able to shut down their #1 lines and their was simply unreliable scoring ability from the other lines.

He's not historically close to PPG. He's as likely to throw up 60 as 80. And he's bad defensively.

I just don’t see Barzal as a viable C option, as I don’t think he’s played centre with any regularity in NYI in years. I looked at the last 4 years and he hasn’t been more than 5th on the team in faceoffs taken. I’d be hesitant to consider him a top 2 C on the flames

Barzal is a 42% on the dot center who does not really take draws or play center. He is a winger, he has not consistently played center in either of the last two seasons. He could play RW with Frost though.

Ya he is a center like Yegor is a center or Pospisil is a center. He is a guy who occasionally takes draws but does not actually play center.
