Is it me or is the vibe on the broadcast that the series is over? I mean, probably, but the Leafs did win 2 in a row to start. It’s not entirely out of the question
|
Suspect it has more to do with their performance in the last 2 games.

Bob deserved a shutout. His team let him down at the end

I'm surprised at Leafs fans showing emotion, frankly. Booing their team isn't a problem to me. The team played with no emotion. For fans to boo was deserved!
The team is well built. It's clear that Matthews is injured. Tavares surprisingly didn't show up, as did Nylander and both normally do. Marner was lost. In big games Marner and Matthews just don't show up. It's not shocking because it's something that happens against tough teams.

Wow Kypreous just ripping on Matthews. I know Toronto media is harsh but not sure I’ve ever heard anything like that.

Thought Bob would be higher in the record books for the longest playoff shutout streak but he’s not even close to top 50. Lots of longer streaks pre-1950s and in the dead puck era.

All toronto media is going to rip them a new one tonight.
checkin in on Steve Dangle. He's about to go off. Called it one of the worst playoff performances in a generation.

Kipper accused Matthews and the other forwards of floating around, waiting for chances, and basically playing like kids in minor hockey. Suggested Matthews in particular is not built for playoff hockey, having picked up lazy habits in PHX that he’s never been able to shake.

Well...in fairness...they did get smoked.

Sure players get traded even with those, but it makes it harder, and it's always easier when the player wants to leave.

The Leafs traded away their first for 2025, 2026 and 2027 to build the current firewagon of a team.
They might be able to recoup a second for the rights to Marner before July 1. There will be a line of idiot GMs ready to shell out $12M+ for the no-look, backhand spinorama followed by the dog#### back check as that pass is heading into the back of your own net.
Marner is beyond soft, and somehow Matthews is worse.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be pissed. It's a big game and they mailed in the effort. They completely gave up after the 4th goal.
No passion, no heart, no determination. Not a good look for a team that has had that perception hanging around them since forever. I think it just confirmed what everyone thought of them and why so many people picked the Panthers to win the series: Mentally weak.
I seriously think they have the talent to win, but there's something wrong with this team mentally that cannot be fixed.

They should have kept Kadri. Even Hyman.

Tavares is a big game player. I was shocked to see him this quiet today. When everyone is floating, Tavares will always crash the net to get a garbage goal. Again, Matthews and Marner are guys who will not get their hands dirty. If the Leafs let Marner walk (which seems likely), and they use the money to sign a younger version of Tavares, who gets dirty, they'd be a really good playoff team. I'm not sure which FAs are available but it they have to get a bigger skilled body who can get their hands dirty on the top line.

If the Leafs can't come back I don't know where they go next. Marner probably gone. JT probably comes back, but how many times do you run the same core group out there. Or do they say Matthews wasn't healthy and that's why they give it another go.

I don't know...people said the same thing about Tampa when they lost to CBJ in round one and couldn't get over the hump.
Then same thing was said about Florida and then they made the Huberdeau- Tkachuk trade and it changed their trajectory.
We've said the same thing about Edmonton and they made the finals last year and looks like they will be final 4 at worst this year.
IMO the Leafs could win, but they needed to make a bold move to move out one of their high paid forwards for a different type of player (they tried to get Rantanen but he wanted to stick it to Colorado by going to Dallas) but they've kind of just shuffled chairs around the edges and spend a ton of assets bringing in non-elite talent (Treliving's MO)
Window isn't closed but they need to try something different. Issue is they spent all their assets and Marner is a UFA now.

JT's a FA but will sign on a much cheaper deal to stay on the team. He's said as much. No way Treliving deals Nylander or Matthews. So it would be a run back, likely minus Marner.

What the #### are you talking about?...you are obsessed with me
Mainly? I mentioned Tkachuk ONE time when someone said the Panthers dont attack goalies...he was suspended for it. What a dumb post.
