Oilers get too much credit sometimes, they finished where they did in the regular season for a reason. The new playoff format is the only reason the Oilers are still playing at the moment.

Well, "newish" playoff format. Their bracket format, playing teams largely Division based instead of playing best against worst right through.
In the old format, their first round matchup would have been against Dallas.
If they would have won, their second round matchup would have been against Winnipeg.
If they won again, their third round would have been against the winner between Vegas or Colorado.

What am I missing? The two division winners play the two wildcards, and #2/#3 of each division play each other. It’s been like this for 10 years now.

Not sure how long the format has been around, but in a league that's been around for over 100 years I still consider ~10 years to be newish and it's still stupid.

I was really rooting for the leafs this year. But man it feels good watching the world figure out that Tre is not a great GM. Every year he shuffles the deck, with a bias to players he's familiar with...with no real vision of what he wants to build.
